WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Brigid Brady scored five goals and Mallory Ferrandiz added four to help lead the No. 9 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team to a 16-12 non-conference win over Bryant University on Monday afternoon at Kayo Field.
Brady scored four of her five goals in the opening 8:38 to help UNH (11-2) jump out to an early 6-1 lead. The Chargers scored the game's first five goals, including three by Brady, and ultimately led 9-3 at halftime.
Bryant (8-5) would fight back by scoring three of the first four goals in the second half, and closed out the game with four straight tallies. Allison Faiola led all players with six goals, including three in a span of just over four minutes to start the second half.
Faiola's fifth goal of the game made it 10-6 with 23:12 remaining on the clock. But that was as close as Bryant would get, as UNH put in three in a row to extend their lead back to 13-6. Ashley Ferrandiz scored the first two, and sister Mallory Ferrandiz added the third.
After Bryant cut the deficit to five with just under 18 minutes left, UNH again scored three in a row to push their lead back out. Kristine Lambracht opened the string off a pass from Ashley Ferrandiz, then Brady scored on an 8-meter shot and Brianna Kenworthy followed with an unassisted goal to make it 16-8.
Bryant closed out the game with four goals in a row over a 3:47 span, but ran out of time on the comeback attempt.
In addition to Brady (5g) and Mallory Ferrandiz (4g), Lambracht scored three and Ashley Ferrandiz added a pair plus three assists. Goalkeeper Shannon Greenwood added 10 saves in the winning effort.
UNH will look to build on its record-setting season with back-to-back road matches later this week. They travel to future Northeast-10 Conference opponents Merrimack (Friday) and Saint Anselm (Sunday), before playing their final home match of the season next Thursday, April 24 against Bentley College.
