SPARKILL, N.Y. -- Jessica Medina (photo) launched a grand slam, Jordanna Borska homered in each game, and the Chargers allowed just one earned run in 14 innings to key the University of New Haven's doubleheader sweep of St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday afternoon at Spartan Field.  UNH won the opener 7-1 and took the nightcap, 9-1.

UNH improves to 12-14 overall and 4-6 in the East Coast Conference with the wins, while STAC falls to 11-17, 5-5.

Medina's grand slam broke open the first game, and Borska had a solo home run in the seventh inning of both games to help key the offensive explosion.  Meanwhile, Meg Brown struck out 11 in a complete-game effort to win the opener and Breanne Gleason and Hannah Everson combined to allow just one run in the nightcap.

UNH hosts Queens College (N.Y.) in an ECC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in West Haven, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

GAME ONE - UNH 7, STAC 1

Medina hit a grand slam in the top of the first, one of three UNH homers in the contest, and Brown struck out 11 and did not allow an earned run in the victory.

Medina's blast made it 5-0 in the top of the first.  Meghan Walter walked to lead off the day, and Gleason doubled her home for a 1-0 lead.  Nicole Downs then walked, followed by a strikeout and a Brown walk.  After a foul out, Medina belted a two-out grand slam to put UNH firmly in control.

Gleason homered in the top of the second for a 6-0 edge, and Borska added a round-tripper in the seventh to close out the scoring.

Brown, meanwhile, allowed just one unearned run in a complete game effort to earn her sixth victory of the season.  She walked seven but struck out 11, allowing just three hits.  One of those hits was a single in the bottom of the first, and the run came around to score after an error in center field.

GAME TWO - UNH 9, STAC 1

Borska homered for the second time on the afternoon, and was one of three Charger players with 2 RBI's as UNH won the nightcap easily.  STAC did not help itself by committing six errors, leading to five unearned runs.

Gleason and Hannah Everson combined on the pitching side of things, with Gleason allowing one run while striking out seven in four innings to pick up the win.  Everson allowed two hits but struck out four in three scoreless frames in the circle.

Borska again waited until the top of the seventh inning to launch the homer, her fourth of the season.  By then, UNH was firmly in control after scoring three runs in the first inning, one in the second and four more in the fourth.

In the first inning, Walter doubled and moved to third on an error, scoring on a second error.  With two outs, Brown and Medina both singled home runs to put the Chargers on top 3-0.

After an unearned run scored in the second inning, UNH really broke open the game with their four-run fourth.  Two errors with one out loaded the bases for Gleason, who singled to drive in a pair.  After Downs singled to re-load the bases, Borska singled to plate another run.  Brown followed with a run-scoring single of her own.
