NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Shannon Gagne won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long jump, while Melissa Tempesta (photo) captured a win in the steeplechase, to lead the University of New Haven outdoor track team's efforts at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational on Saturday.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Shannon Gagne won the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.42, and then took the championship in the 200 with a time of 25.87. Gagne capped off the triple victory with a win in the long jump, going 5.36 meters (17 feet, 7 inches).
Also capturing a win, Melissa Tempesta in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She ran 11:38.31, just over 11 seconds away from NCAA provisional qualification.
Kathryn Sabal was 10th in the 100-meter high hurdles and was 6th in the long jump (4.68 meters). Alissa von Schmidt was 10th in the 1,500-meter run, with a time of 5:13.55.
MEN'S RECAP
Tetrick Stonar was third in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.94 in heat six. Zachary Goodstein was 10th in the event.
Stonar finished fourth in the men's 100-meter dash, in a time of 11.28 seconds, to capture five points for the men's team. Michael Stevenson was sixth in that race with a time of 11.58.
Tyler Parker was was second in the 400-meter hurdles (56.50), while placing sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles. Also in the sprints, Bill Kolodziej was 22nd in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 54.58 seconds.
James Beaubrun ran 2:00.67 in the 800-meter run, placing 11th. He was followed closely by Pat Leach (2:00.91). Beaubrun was third in the 1,500-meter run, with a time of 4:09.16. Leach followed with a time of 4:14.18 for sixth place.
