Box Score - Game One / Box Score - Game Two
CALDWELL, N.J. - Meg Brown picked up her fourth victory of the season, striking out nine while pitching a complete-game shutout to help the University of New Haven softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Caldwell College on Sunday afternoon. The Chargers won the second game, 2-1, while Caldwell took the opener, 1-0.
Brown homered in her own defense in the nightcap to help UNH (9-11) pick up the split with Caldwell (13-9). In the opener, Breanne Gleason allowed just one run in a complete-game effort but the offense could not tally a run in her defense as she was a hard-luck loser.
This was the first of four road trips in a row for the Chargers, who resume ECC play at C.W. Post on Tuesday, April 8 at 3:30 p.m.
GAME ONE - Caldwell 1, UNH 0
UNH's best chance to score in game one came in the top of the first, when they loaded the bases on three singles. But with two out, Caldwell pitcher Brittany Pulido induced a groundout to end the inning and the threat.
The only run of the game came in the bottom of the third. With one out, Nicole Bodrog walked, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Danielle Genovese. Gina Capardi followed with a single that plated Bodrog for a 1-0 lead.
Pulido made the run stand, allowing just two hits the rest of the way for her fifth shutout of the season. For the game, she gave up six hits while striking out two and walking none to improve to 7-2.

GAME TWO - UNH 2, Caldwell 1
Brown's solo home run in the top of the first put the Chargers on top early in game two. The Chargers added a run in the third on a RBI double by Nicole Downs for a 2-0 lead.
Caldwell didn't get on the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth, when Carrie Flasphaler drew a bases-loaded walk to score Capardi from third. With the bases still loaded and two out, Brown recorded a strikeout to end the inning and preserve the lead.
Caldwell threatened again in the seventh, with Bodrog reaching on a single and advancing to third with two out. With the tying run 60 feet away, Brown again fanned the final batter to end the game.
Brown had nine strikeouts and six walks while giving up just three hits to improve to 4-4. Junior Kristen de la Campa matched Brown with nine strikeouts in five innings for Caldwell.
