WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Freshman Ashley Ferrandiz scored five times to pace the University of New Haven women's lacrosse team to a 17-3 non-conference victory over Assumption College at Kayo Field on Monday afternoon.
Kristine Lambracht and Brigid Brady added three goals apiece for UNH, which improves to 7-1 this season with the victory. The win helps the Chargers match the school record for victories in a season, and the team still has nine matches remaining in the regular season.
Mallory Ferrandiz scored twice, as did Carolina Marrero, while Sarah LeGoff and Heather Miles hit the back of the net once each to round out the scoring. Shannon Kilburn picked up the win in goal, playing the first half, while Shannon Greenwood did not allow a goal in 30 minutes of action in the second half.
Assumption (0-7) got a pair of assists from Emily Morrell, while three players scored one goal apiece.
UNH scored the game's first five goals, including a pair by Ashley Ferrandiz. Assumption got on the board with just under 13 minutes left in the half, and got as close as 7-3 before UNH closed out the period with three straight goals. Mallory Ferrandiz ended the half with an 8-meter goal with just 17 seconds left on the clock to put UNH up by seven at the break.
UNH dominated the second half by a 7-0 margin, putting in each of those goals in the first 16:35 of the period.
Ashley Ferrandiz now has a team-leading 23 goals this season, while Mallory leads the team with 29 points on 19 goals and 10 assists. Brady has scored 18 times in eight games, and LeGoff has 15 goals.
The Chargers resume ECC play on Wednesday at first-year program Dowling College, then face another stiff test on Saturday at nationally-ranked Adelphi University (No. 5 as of March 24 poll; March 31 poll not yet released). It will be the third nationally-ranked program UNH has faced this season, with a loss to No. 1 C.W. Post and a win over No. 3 Stonehill last week.
