The men's and women's track teams continued the outdoor portion of their season on Saturday at the Owl Invitational, hosted by Southern Connecticut.
The Chargers women's team was led by three strong performances from sophomore Shannon Gagne (photo) which propelled UNH to a 6th place finish in the team standings. Gagne finished in first place in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events and topped her day off with a second place result in the long jump.
On the men's side, James Beaubrun led the way with a third place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase event. In the team rankings, the UNH men finished in 9th place.
Women's Recap
Gagne carried the Chargers, earning 28 of the team's 38 total team points. In a time of 12.50 seconds Gagne captured the 100-meter dash. Her next first place result came in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.29 seconds. And in what has been her strongest event this year, Gagne placed second in the long jump (5.25 meters).
Also of note, was a strong 3rd place finish for freshman Melissa Tempesta in the 3000-meter steeplechase event. The result earned UNH six points. In the 100-meter hurdle event, fellow freshman Kathryn Sabal captured an 11th place finish with a time of 19.38 seconds.
Men's Recap
Senior Beaubrun's performance in the stepplechase event led the way for the Chargers. Tyler Parker earned UNH a sixth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 58.25.
In the 100-meter dash, senior Jacob Wall placed 11th in a time of 11.58 seconds. Rounding out the noteworthy performances on the day was senior Richard Wyche who posted a time of 51.23 seconds in the 400-meter dash, good for 13th place.
Up next for the Chargers is the Coast Guard Academy Track Invitational on April 5th in New London, Connecticut.
