WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Tom Kohler had 17 kills on .600 hitting to lead the No. 9 Ramapo College men's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over University of New Haven at Charger Gymnasium on Thursdsay night. Ramapo won by scores of 30-27, 26-30, 30-21, 30-28.
Ramapo (26-5) was ranked ninth in the lastest AVCA Division III poll, and got 12 kills from Shane Donohue and 10 more from Brendan Whitford. Setter Jairo Sierra led all players with 42 assists, adding seven digs.
UNH (9-12) got 17 kills and 20 assists from Chris Lennon, while Matthew Soderstrom had 12 kills and Tommy Musto added 10. He also had a match-high 10 digs.
Neither team hit well in the match, with Ramapo holding a .211 to .179 edge. Ramapo logged 24 block assists and 13.0 total blocks. Kohler led the way with seven block assists, while Donohue, Whitford and Elvis Cabrera added four each.
UNH travels to non-conference foe Endicott College this Monday, March 31, the first of three straight matches on the road for the Chargers.
