GAME ONE - Adelphi 2, UNH 0
The opener was a classic pitcher's duel, with UNH's Gleason and Julie Schaper squaring off. Shaper went the distance for Adelphi, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out six. Gleason allowed two runs (one earned) while striking out three in a complete-game effort.
Three errors hurt the Chargers' effort, including a miscue that led to a run in the second inning. Adelphi got a run in the first and then went ahead 2-0 in the second after an error at third base allowed a run to cross.
Gleason allowed just two hits the rest of the way, cruising through the third, fourth and fifth innings in order to keep the Chargers in the game.
But UNH was unable to capitalize. They put one runner on in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings, but could not advance past second. After allowing a leadoff single to Lizzy Robinson in the fifth, Schaper retired the next nine batters in order to pick up the victory.
GAME TWO - Adelphi 9, UNH 4
DiPiano and Martin keyed the offense with home runs early in the game to lead Adelphi. DiPiano's was a three-run shot with two outs in the first inning, while Martin's solo blast in the second put the Panthers ahead 4-0.
AU added a single run in the third and then put the game out of reach with three more in the top of the fourth to make it 9-0.
It looked like the Chargers would get run-ruled, but they battled back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Gleason started the rally with an RBI single to second base, Walter drove in a pair with a single to center field and, Medina drove in the final run on a fielder's choice grounder.
UNH put runners on base in both the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn't complete the rally. Gabby Cruz walked in the sixth and got around to third after Gleason singled, but a flyout to center ended the inning.
In the seventh, Downs was hit by a pitch but got erased on a failed sacrifice bunt. Walter was left stranded on first after a lineout to second and a ground out to third ended the game.
Gleason pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief as the third pitcher of the game. She struck out five.
