Outdoor Track Competes at Husky Spring Open

DEDHAM, Mass. -- In their first outdoor meet of the season, the University of New Haven track teams traveled to Northeastern University for the 2008 Husky Spring Open, held at Solomon Track.

The Chargers were led by strong performances from both the men's and women's teams in the 800 meter run. Alissa von Schmidt (photo) finished in sixth position with a time of 2:33.49. On the men's side, Pat Leach and David Chiapperino finished in third and 11th place with times of 2:01.80 and 2:08.27 respectively.

Shannon Gagne continued her fine season in the long jump with a first place mark of 5.16 meters.

In the 110 meter hudles, Tyler Parker posted a sixth place finish in a time of 17.50 seconds.

Rounding out the noteworthy performances on Saturday was the men's 4x100-meter relay team. Their time of 44.66 seconds was good for a first place result just ahead of the UMass-Boston team.
