WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Jon Wintermeyer had 13 kills on .524 hitting and the No. 3 NYU men's volleyball team had 20 block assists in a 3-0 EIVA sweep of University of New Haven on Thursday night at Charger Gymnasium.

Wintermeyer got his 13 kills on the inside, committing just two errors in 21 swings for NYU (15-6, 6-1 EIVA), which was ranked third in Division III this week.  He added eight total blocks (seven assisted) to lead all players with 18.5 points.  Ilan Goldstein had 37 assists and six block assists for the Violets, while David Coll killed 12 balls on .450 hitting.

UNH (9-10, 0-6 EIVA) was led by Chris Lennon, who had 10 kills.  Tommy Musto had nine kills and seven digs, while Austin Michalski recorded 20 assists.

Game one was tight throughout, featuring 12 ties and four lead changes.  NYU got six kills on eight attempts from Coll in the frame, while Wintermeyer had four in the game.  UNH led 28-27 after a Matthew Soderstrom kill, but he served the ball long to tie the contest at 28-all on the next play.  A long bump toward the net couldn't be handled by Michalski, putting NYU on game point, and Francis Hodgson and Zolnowski had an emphatic block on the left side to end the game 30-28.

The second game was predominantly NYU, as they jumped out to an early eight-point lead, 18-10.  UNH got it to 21-15, but the Violets reeled off four straight points to take control.  UNH held off three game points before a Musto service error put NYU ahead two games to none.

Game three was tied at 22 all before blocks changed the momentum.  A blocking error on UNH gave NYU the first point, and then an emphatic double block by Goldstein and Wintermeyer made it 24-22.  That forced a Charger time out.  NYU captured four more points in a row coming out of the break, before a service error finally broke their momentum at 28-23.  But the Violets closed out the match on a block by Wintermeyer and a kill by Hodgson.

UNH continues EIVA play after spring break, at Sacred Heart University on Wednesday, March 26.
