NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Billy Hite drove in four runs and Jim Fuller struck out 11 batters in six innings to power the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team to an 11-0 win over University of New Haven at The Ballpark at SCSU on Tuesday.
Hite finished 2-for-4, while Mike Diaz doubled and tripled, going 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI's and runs scored to help SCSU improve to 6-3 this season with the win over future Northeast-10 Conference opponent UNH. The Chargers remain winless this season at 0-7 as they managed just three hits, all singles.
Southern opened with a single run in the bottom of the 1st, then got three in the 3rd, one in the 4th, five in the 5th and one in the 8th.
That offense backed a strong outing by Fuller, who allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out 11 batters in six innings of work. He is now 2-0 this season. Nick Carlucci, Toby Nylin and Mike Connors all pitched an inning of scoreless relief.
Jimmy Rivas, Chad Lemos and Dan Rosa all went 1-for-3 for UNH.
Southern broke the game open with five runs in the fifth inning. Diaz tripled to right center to drive in a pair of runs, while Hite drove in another with a double to right.
UNH continues non-conference play tomorrow, Wednesday, March 12, at another future NE-10 opponent, Pace University.
