The Matchup
The top-seeded Chargers begin their quest for a third consecutive ECC tournament title this Wednesday at Charger Gymnasium as they take on No. 8 Dowling College.  Semifinals and Championship action take place on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 at Queens College in Flushing, N.Y.  The tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

University of New Haven (19-8, 19-1 ECC) wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 74-67 win on Saturday over St. Thomas Aquinas.  Briiana Rende led the Chargers with 14 points and seven assists in the victory.  UNH will look to continue their momentum into the ECC quarterfinal match-up, having won six games in a row and 10 of their last 11.

After a five-game winning streak to start of the month of February, the Golden Lions have lost three of their last four heading into the ECC Tournament.  In their last game, Dowling (9-18, 7-13 ECC) dropped a 67-60 decision at Queens College.  Molly Tubridy led Dowling with a game-high 20 points in the loss.

This will be the third meeting between UNH and Dowling this season.  On January 12, the Chargers defeated Dowling 74-57 in Oakdale.  And just two weeks have passed since UNH turned in a seven-point victory over the Golden Lions at Charger Gymnasium on February 20.

Dowling features a balanced attack with three players averaging double figures in scoring.  Molly Tubridy leads the team at 11.9 ppg, followed by Nikkeia Daniels (11.6) and Michelle Yawn (10.3).

Leading the Chargers is Lauren Hood, who is averaging 15.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.  The Chargers have a balanced scoring attack, with six players averaging at least six points per game this season.
