BROOKVILLE, N.Y. -- Jonathan Schmidt scored a game-high 34 points and No. 10 C.W. Post used a pair of 17-7 runs in the second half to put away an 85-67 victory over University of New Haven in East Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Schmidt made 9 of 14 shots, including three 3-pointers, and knocked down 13 of 15 free throws to help first-place C.W. Post (22-3, 17-1 ECC) pull away in the second half.  UNH (11-15, 7-12 ECC) led 36-35 at halftime but allowed the Pioneers to go on not one, but two 17-7 runs in the second half to pull away. 

C.W. Post controlled the boards by a 42-34 margin, and knocked down 32 free throws to just 12 for UNH.

Tetrick Stonar led the Chargers with 19 points and added six rebounds, while Cassius Chaney had 12 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.  Darryl Greene added 12 points on 5 of 10 shooting.

UNH led 36-35 at halftime, but less than five minutes into the final period C.W. Post was ahead 52-43 after a 17-7 run.  Schmidt had the final five points of the outburst with back-to-back layups, the latter turning into a traditional three-point play.

C.W. Post then held a 55-49 lead with 11:36 remaining in the game, and again went on a 17-7 run to take firm control.  Schmidt scored 9 of the 17 points, while Brandon Butler scored five of his 16 in the string, which saw the Pioneers holding a 72-56 edge with just over five minutes remaining.

UNH has just one regular-season game remaining, next Saturday, March 1 at St. Thomas Aquinas.  The Spartans entered the day in a tie for fourth place in the ECC.  The Chargers entered the day one-half game behind the eighth and final playoff spot, trailing both Dowling and Mercy.
