GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- Mesa State College had five home runs and 13 extra-base hits in a 37-0 win over University of New Haven in non-conference baseball action at Suplizio Field on Friday afternoon.

Mesa State (6-6), which opened the season ranked fourth nationally in the Collegiate Baseball poll, had 36 hits overall - including eight doubles and five home runs in a game shortened to seven innings due to the large margin of victory.  Mike Provencher led all players with a 6-for-7 effort, scoring six runs and knocking in six more.  He had a pair of doubles and his third homer of the season.

Provencher was one of ten different players who had at least two base hits in the game.  Chandler Herdt and Kyle Hogue each drove in five runs.

UNH dropped its season opener less than a day after flying cross-country, and will face Mesa State three more times this weekend.  The teams square off in a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.

The Chargers got singles from newcomers Tom Rombilus and Jimmy Rivas, but put just six players on base in all.  Rivas was on twice, adding a walk in the fourth to his first-inning single.

UNH committed eight fielding errors, leading to 17 unearned runs - including eight of the nine scored in the third inning.

These teams meet in a doubleheader (9 innings then 7 innings) on Saturday at Suplizio Field beginning at noon Mountain Time.
