WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- The Newbury College men's volleyball team hit .378 and got 16 kills apiece from Erik Kostanski and Mark Thomas to score a 3-1 non-conference win over University of New Haven at Charger Gymnasium Wednesday night.

Newbury (13-3) prevailed by scores of 32-30, 30-25, 28-30 and 30-27, sending UNH back to a 6-3 overall record.

Chris Lennon led the Chargers with a career-high 33 kills on .415 hitting, all while working half the match as a secondary setter.  He had 25 assists as well for the double-double, and added six digs.  Tommy Musto added 16 kills and nine digs, while Matthew Soderstrom had 7 kills and five blocks.

Austin Michalski (photo) had a career-high 39 assists, and added eight kills and five digs for the Chargers, who hit .419 in the fourth game.

Newbury's Kostanski led all players with a .536 hitting percentage, while Thomas added three blocks for a team-best 18.5 points.  Jay Neveu was the third player with a double-figure kills total for the Nighthawks, recording 12 on .429 hitting.

Newbury hit well in all four games, registering attack percentages of .424, .290, .286 and .536.  They out-blocked the Chargers 14 to 9, getting 11 block assists from Max Daley and five for Neveu.

UNH opens Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) play on Friday night at Charger Gymnasium, welcoming in the fourth-ranked team in Division III, Springfield College.  The teams meet back-to-back in a staggered home-and-home, with the Chargers returning the trip up I-91 on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
