BOSTON, Mass. -- The University of New Haven Track & Field teams competed at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games on Friday. The event, hosted by Northeastern University, was the fourth meet of the indoor season for the Chargers.
The Chargers were anchored by Shannon Gagne (photo) who turned in solid performances in three events on Friday. Gagne finished behind only three competitors in the long jump with a 4th place result of 5.16 meters. She also contributed with two top-12 finishes in the sprints. In the 200-meter dash, Gagne ended up in 10th place with a time of 26.48 seconds. To round out her excellent day, Gagne put in a 12th place finish in the 55-meter dash (7.57 seconds).
The men's team was led by Senior Jake Wall who registered strong performances in both the 55-meter and 200-meter dash events. Wall finished the 55-meter sprint in a time of 6.8 seconds, good for 14th place. Following closely behind was teammate Zach Picotte in 17th with a time of 6.87. In the 200-meter dash, Wall continued his solid day with a 12th place effort with a time of 23.05 seconds.
Another noteworthy result for the Chargers was Senior Richard Wyche's finish of 9th place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.36. Wyche was also a contributor to the men's distance medley squad who finished in 4th position. They finished twenty seconds behind the first place relay team from Boston College, but the finish was good for five team points for UNH. Joining Wyche on the relay team were teammates Pat Leach, Brandon Fitzgerald and James Beubrun.
The track and field teams continue their season next week close to home with their second meet of the season hosted by Yale at Coxe Cage in New Haven. It will mark the half-way point of the indoor schedule this winter for both the men's and women's teams.
