WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- American International College scored twice in the second half to break a deadlock an win 3-1 over University of New Haven in non-conference men's soccer on Wednesday afternoon at Kayo Field.
AIC (6-9-3) got second-half goals from Bernard Kessie and Jeff Morrison to pull away with the victory. Kessie's goal, which proved to be the game-winner, came in the 54th minute and Morrison's first goal of the season came at 69:52.
New Haven (5-10-1) got 13 saves from goalkeeper James Hilaire and their lone goal off the foot of freshman Nick Pezzente (photo). His first career goal opened the game's scoring in the 25th minute, when fellow freshman Matt Sarrazin played a long ball toward the goal. AIC keeper Anthony Tranghese misplayed the ball, which bounced off his chest and to the left. Pezzente, hustling forward, was able to collect the bouncer and deposit it in the net for a 1-0 Charger advantage.
However AIC got three unanswered for the victory, with the equalizer coming at 38:59 off the foot of Theo Abbey following a rebound off a Hilaire save.
The Chargers were able to out-shoot AIC 12-6 in the second half but could not put another tally on the board.
UNH closes out its season on the road at C.W. Post this Saturday.
