WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Victor Rios scored his first goal of the season in the 74th minute to lift Bloomfield College to a 1-0 non-conference men's soccer victory over the University of New Haven on Saturday afternoon at Robert B. Dodds Stadium.

After a crossing pass from the right side slipped past a number of players, the bouncing ball found its way onto the right foot of Rios. He was able to strike the deciding goal to lift Bloomfield to its first victory of the season (1-3-0).

The loss sends UNH down to 0-4-0 overall despite several good opportunities to score. Freshman Nick Pezzente had probably the best chance when he crossed over a defender and hit a high, hard shot to the middle of the goal at the 21:29 mark in the first half. But Bloomfield goalkeeper Julian Gaviria jumped high to make one of his 10 saves on the afternoon and keep UNH scoreless.

Overall, Bloomfield out-shot UNH 23-21 in a game that featured a lot of action around the goal boxes. It was a physical contest, with Bloomfield drawing 27 fouls to 22 for UNH. There were five yellow cards issued overall.

Goalkeeper James Hilaire made nine saves for UNH, including one while laying on the ground at 27:21 of the second half.

UNH plays at Post University on September 11, before returning to Dodds Stadium to host ECC foe Concordia on September 18.
