Charlene Taylor could arguably be the best point guard to play basketball at the University of New Haven, playing a key role on the 1987 national championship team. Taylor's role was so important that she was named to the 1987 Division II Championship All-Tournament team. She finished her career second in scoring (1,853 points), first in steals (419), first in assists (603), fourth in three-pointers (55) and eighth in rebounding (458) before falling out of the top ten in 1993. At the time of her induction, Taylor held the school records for assists in a season (175), and three-point field goals in a season with (35). She once held the school single season record for steals with 134. The guard earned Kodak All-District honors twice before receiving a Kodak All-America award as a senior. Taylor's assist total ranks 13th all-time in NCAA Division II history. She garnered many awards during her four-year stay including an ECAC Player of the Year award and an NECC Player of the Year trophy. Taylor was a two-time Female Athlete of the Year at the University of New Haven. She was a three-time All-NECC first team choice and was a member of the 1989 NCAA New England All-Region squad.
