Inducted 1990

Although he didn’t put any points on the scoreboard, Keith Russo played a major role in New Haven’s success by not allowing the opposition to score any goals.  As a defensive player, Russo was one of the reasons New Haven was so successful in the early 1980s.  He supplied the Chargers with outstanding defense and leadership during his career.  Russo was a member of the 1981 defense which only allowed 10 goals in 20 games, a record which still stands at his induction.  During his stay, New Haven posted a 56-15-7 record, including a school record 17 wins in 1983.  His play earned him a great deal of recognition, highlighted by All-America berths in both 1982 and 1983.  Russo was also named to the All-New England team in three of his four years as a Charger.  He played on two NCAA playoff teams during his career at New Haven, advancing to the Regional Final in both seasons.  Without argument, Keith Russo ranks as one of the best defensive soccer players ever to play at the University of New Haven.
