Third Base
(1976-79)
Inducted 1988
There have been plenty of outstanding athletes that have gone through the New Haven baseball program over the years, but there may have never been a player more loyal, well- rounded and as hard-working as Dennis Paglialunga. The former third baseman for Coach Frank Vieira was in the game on every pitch. Feared around the league as a money player, “Pags” more often than not came up with the big play or the key swing. He was also not afraid to get his uniform dirty as he developed into one of the best defensive third baseman in Charger history. Dennis was the player his coach would want at the plate as he led the team in hits and runs for three seasons. He also made a name for himself in the Charger record books as his name appears in five All-Time categories. These include a first place tie in Games Played (146); sixth in Doubles (35); third in hits (196); fourth in triples (11); and seventh in average (.343). While he was surrounded by a great supporting cast, there should be no question in anyone’s mind that Dennis was the epitome of the team player who would always put the Chargers ahead of his personal goals.
