Guard
(1965-69)
Inducted 1991
Many point guards have passed through the New Haven basketball program but few are regarded as highly as Jack Nesbit. After the graduation of the Hall of Famer Jack Kelly, Nesbit took over the point guard position and the Chargers did not skip a beat as the Blue and Gold went on to play in three NAIA Championship tournaments during his four-year career. The school posted a school record for wins in his freshman campaign, sporting a 29-2 slate. He held the school record for most assists in a career until 1976, dishing off 468 assists during his career. Despite his fine passing abilities, Nesbit had the ability to score points as well, becoming the fifth UNH player to reach the 1,000 point plateau. He finished with a four-year total of 1,113 points, an average of 10.5 points per game. To further illustrate his ability, New Haven posted an impressive 86-23 record during his tenure. His teammates called him the catalyst, the reason that the Chargers were so successful during their early days. Nesbit is the fifth player from the 1965 team to enter the UNH Hall of Fame.
