Defensive Back
(1978-81)
Inducted 1989
One of the finest defensive backs to play at New Haven, Miles McPherson recorded impressive numbers during his four-year career. At one time he held 15 school records and still holds all the interception records - in a game (4), in a season (7), which he accomplished twice, and in a career (22). He was named to the All New England Conference First Team, New England Football Writers’ Association Division II-III team, Boston Herald All-American Team and the CoSIDA Division IIII All-Academic team. McPherson became the first Charger to be drafted into the National Football League. He was taken as a 10th round pick by the Los Angeles Rams. He signed with the San Diego Chargers where he played from 1982 to 1985. McPherson saw action as a punt returner, a defensive back and a special teams player during his four year career with the professional Chargers.
