Few players could claim the accomplishments of Dave McCabe, a forward for the Chargers hockey team from 1966-69. McCabe finished his career with 193 points which ranks second all-time at New Haven, missing the school record by just one point. McCabe tallied 85 goals and a school record 108 assists, helping the hockey team post a 40-17 record during his four years. His best season came in 1965-66 in which he tallied 66 points (29 goals and 37 assists). Throughout his career, McCabe was honored frequently by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). In addition to winning weekly ECAC awards, McCabe earned a spot on the ECAC All-Star team as a junior and senior. He was recognized by his teammates as they voted him the team most valuable player. Upon his graduation, McCabe held school records for most goals scored in a game with six and tied for most career hat tricks with six. Perhaps the most impressive statistic is that McCabe averaged better than three points per game over his four years.
