Joe Kingston

Cross Country/Track
Distance Runner
(1974-78)

Inducted 1985

As the University of New Haven cross country and track programs were in their budding stages in 1974, an athlete named Joe Kingston became the shining star and guiding light for the new sports.  The distance runner earned all-conference honors in each of his four years of competition.  In cross country, Joe was named to the All-Tri-State Conference for four seasons in the three-mile, and twice in the mile.  Joe also took All-Collegiate Track Conference recognition in 1977 with the 3000 meter steeplechase (when he was conference champion), and 1978 in the 3000 meters.  He had held school records in the mile, two-mile, three-mile, 3000 meters and the 300 meter steeplechase.  The crowning achievement came in 1978, when Joe was named UNH Athlete of the Year.
