A dependable player on the court for Don Ormrod, Dick Jackson was one of the Charger originals, playing with the first varsity team. His freshman season, 1961-62, featured a blistering .800 free throw percentage to lead the squad. The former East Haven High standout was one of Ormrod’s most important figures in the 22-3 season of 1963-64, which featured another Southern New England Conference Championship. His career numbers include 14.8 points per game, 9.5 rebounds, and a .733 free throw average. Jackson, who ranked fifth in all-time points and seventh in rebounds prior to his induction in 1982, missed only five games in his career. Despite the tension and distractions in the big moments, and there were many, Dick Jackson always could be counted on to make the pressure basket and free throw.
