Inducted 2002
Jim Halloran, who led his team to 66 wins in two years and produced the third best batting average in school history, becomes the 30th player from the baseball program to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The 2002 inductee recorded a career average of .401, the third best average in school history and his senior season average of .437 stands as the sixth best single season batting average. The highlight of Halloran’s career was in 1989 when he led the Chargers to the NCAA Division II College World Series. It was the second time in nine seasons the Chargers advanced to the title game. During the tournament Halloran set a NCAA Division II Championship Record with 10 assists in one game. He collected 60 hits, 50 runs scored, nine doubles, 23 walks and a .377 batting average in 1989. For his efforts in 1989, Halloran was named an All-New England and All-Northeast First Team selection. His 50 runs scored in 1989 ties him for seventh in school history. Halloran, a two-time co-captain for New Haven, played for the Bourne Braves of the prestigious Cape Cod League in 1989. While a member of the Braves, he teamed with Mark Johnson, who became a member of the New York Mets. His senior season was highlighted by being named Second Team All-American and First Team All-Northeast Region.
