Pitcher
(1978-81)
Inducted 1993
For four seasons, the Chargers depended upon Mike Giordano and the pitcher responded each time with a solid performance. He pitched effectively for four seasons, winning 71 percent of his decisions with a 25-10 record. At the time of his induction, he ranked among New Haven’s career leaders in five categories, namely appearances (53), wins (25), innings pitched (302), saves (five) and shutouts (four). He is one of only five New Haven pitchers to register over 300 innings. After pitching just 18 innings as a freshman, Giordano was quickly indoctrinated in his sophomore season, throwing 111 innings, the eighth highest single season total in UNH history. He won his first two varsity starts, defeating C.W. Post and Central Connecticut in which he allowed just one earned run in 16 innings. His best season came in 1981 in which he posted a 10-3 record with a 2.89 ERA, with 60 strike outs in 93.1 innings.
