Ken Coleman excelled in both baseball and basketball in a way most athletes can only hope. He was a four-year starter for both the basketball and baseball teams, earning All-New England Collegiate Conference honors in both sports. On the basketball court, he ranks among the top 20 all-time scorers with 1,229 points and holds the school record for career assists (595) and steals (270). Coleman was one of the school’s first three-point shooting threats, netting 106 treys in two seasons including 63 in his junior year. He concluded his career as captain for a team which advanced to the NCAA tournament. Coleman performed equally as well on the baseball diamond, earning a reputation as one of the best second baseman to play at the University of New Haven. He batted .428 in 1988 with 34 RBIs and four home runs to help the Chargers advance to the NCAA World Series. In fact, the Blue and Gold made the NCAA playoffs each of his four seasons. He finished his career with a .319 batting average, 21 doubles, 10 home runs, 101 RBIs and 150 hits. Coleman continued to play baseball upon his graduation, spending several seasons within the Chicago White Sox organization.
