Cameron Drew

Baseball/Basketball
Outfielder/Forward
(1983-85)

Inducted 1992

Cameron Drew could be considered one of the best two-sport athletes to attend the University of New Haven.  Drew became one of the most soughtafter Chargers when he was selected in the first round of the Major Leagur Baseball draft by the Houston Astros, making him the highest draft pick in UNH history.  In 1985, he recorded 12 home runs, 39 RBIs and a .388 batting average.  His numbers helped him earn a spot on the 1985 All-New England Collegiate Conference team.  With all the fanfare accorded Drew for his baseball achievements, not many realize that the New Jersey native was recruited as a basketball player.  Drew scored 1,139 points, grabbed 796 rebounds and shot 50 percent from the floor during his three-year career.  He capped his career by being named to the All-NECC and All-City first team in 1985.  Drew could arguably be considered one of the school’s best rebounders, especially after he out-rebounded Bridgeport’s 7-foot, 6-inch center Manute Bol, who went onto play in the NBA.
