Bill Buscetto

Baseball
Catcher

(1992-95)

Inducted 2003

It may be hard to find another player who displayed as much toughness and leadership as Bill Buscetto did for the UNH baseball program from 1992-1995.  A four-year starting catcher, Buscetto was valuable not only offensively at the plate, but defensively behind it as well. Starting as a freshman, he suffered a shoulder injury only ten games into the season forcing him to miss the remainder of the year.  However, the injury did not slow Buscetto down. As a sophomore, he earned his starting position back and was the leadoff hitter for 21 of the team’s 28 games. As a junior, he hit .338 including multiple-hit games, but it was the following season that was the New London, CT native’s finest.  As a senior in 1995, he hit .303 with 15 doubles and 43 RBIs and struck out just five times in 136 at bats.  In leading the NECC Conference in batting, Buscetto earned not only First-Team All-New England honors, but was also named a Third-Team All-American as well.  For his career, he hit .333 with 31 doubles, and hit .366 in the NCAA tournament.  While certainly considered one of the all-time best offensive players, it was his defensive skills that helped the Chargers post a 93-33 record during his four-year career.  The two-time team captain picked off 46 runners on base and threw out 40 runners attempting to steal. Among his numerous honors, Buscetto was a two-time First-Team All-NECC Conference selection in 1993 and 1995 and a two-time First-Team All-ECAC selection in 1993 and 1995.
