Carolyn Bell becomes the fourth member of the 1987 National Championship Women’s Basketball squad to be inducted into the New Haven Hall of Fame, joining teammates Sonja Beamon, Charlene Taylor and Joy Jeter. Like her teammates, Bell played an integral role on the road to the National Title for the Chargers in 1987. Bell is among the school leaders in several categories to this day. The guard ranks ninth all-time in scoring with 889 career points, places third in both career assists and career steals with 372 and 281 respectively. Her 137 assists in 1986-87 is the fifth best single season total all-time while her 82 steals in that same season ranks sixth best in a season. Bell earned a spot on the All-New England Collegiate Conference second team as a senior. She was consistently among the team’s leaders in most offensive categories during her career and following her senior season she was the school’s all-time leader in steals.
