Gary Battle finished his career at the University of New Haven as one of the most prolific scorers in school history. His 1,959 career points rank third all-time in Charger history. Battle was an All-America selection in 1989-90 and also an All-New England Collegiate Conference selection following the 1989-90 season, his junior year at New Haven. Battle led his team in scoring during the 1988-89 season, his 631 points in 1989-90 were second on the team and still ranks as the ninth best single season scoring mark of all-time at New Haven. He led the team in scoring 12 times during his junior season and 11 more times as a senior in 1990-91. In 1989-90, Battle hit 60 three-point baskets, the seventh best single season performance in school history. Battle compiled 253 career assists and 113 steals and was an 82 percent free-throw shooter for his career. He was a career 47 percent shooter from the floor and a 41 percent shooter from three-point land. Following his career at the University of New Haven, Battle was drafted by the CBA and was invited to an NBA try-out with the Detroit Pistons.
