There is no doubt that Rich Anderson rates among the top pitchers in the rich history of New Haven baseball. In just three seasons under Head Coach Frank Vieira, Anderson, a hard throwing right-hander, made a name for himself as he hurled his way to an impressive 1.61 career ERA for the Chargers. During his three seasons, he posted a 23-6 record in 37 trips to the mound, which was a big contribution to the Blue and Gold’s 80-15 record during those seasons. Rich also has the distinction of posting the first NAIA victory in College World Series action. Still ranking among the top ten on the Charger All-Time lists, the NAIA All-America is fifth in Saves, third in all-time strike outs (290) and fourth in ERA. Perhaps the most impressive statistic of all is his walk-to-strikeout ratio, as he walked just 70 while setting down 290 in 218 innings of work. Anderson also continued the deep tradition as he became the eighth player in Charger history to be drafted. The former Triple-A player in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization was the epitome of the UNH athlete - a proven winner and a class performer.
