James Allen

Guard/Jumper
(1975-79)

Inducted 1987

When you think of a talented, two sport athlete, the name Jim Allen may come to mind around the Charger athletic circles.  Allen, who may be better known for his play on the UNH basketball court, also made quite a name for himself in track & field as he set several school and meet records.  On the court, he made an immediate contribution to the team in his rookie season as he led the Chargers in scoring with 425 points.  The talented sharpshooter led his team for the next three seasons, not only in scoring but in field goals made and attempted.  A native of Lewes, Delaware, Jim is the Chargers’ second leading all-time scorer.  He ended his career in 1979 with 1,785 total points.  He is also second in field goals made and attempted and in scoring with a 19.6 points per game average.  He was drafted by the Boston Celtics after his senior year and was the NBA team’s final cut in the pre-season camp. The Second Team All-American basketball player also used his tremendous speed and jumping ability for the long, high and triple jump events in spring track.  Although he competed for just two seasons, he set three school and two meet records en route to being named an All-Collegiate Track Conference performer in 1977.  Following in the footsteps of former two-sport performers, Allen demonstrated his outstanding athletic ability both on the track and on the court.
