What’s included in the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center?
The Beckerman Center is a comprehensive Student Recreation Complex consisting of:
* 6,000 square feet of fitness space featuring:
* State of the art cardio equipment; most with personal viewing screens
* An exclusive line of nautilus free weight and selectorized machines
* A Juice Bar
* 2 full size activity courts for Basketball/Volleyball/ Badminton
* A MAC court (Multi-Activity Court)
* 2 Racquetball courts
* 2 group fitness performance studios
* Locker rooms and spaces to lounge.
Who can join?
All full time undergraduate and graduate students are allowed access to the Beckerman Center at no additional cost. Rates for part time undergraduate students, Faculty/Staff, and Alumni are listed on the website and in our campus recreation magazine.
May I bring a guest?
Members may bring a guest by purchasing a single entry guest pass for $10 at time of visit; there is a limit of three guests per member per day. Single entry guest passes may be purchased at the membership office. Guests must enter and exit with their sponsor. Guest must provide a picture ID and sign a release of liability form. The guest pass is good for one entry to the facility; guests may not exit the facility and re-enter at a later time.
Who may purchase a self-sponsored pass?
All part-time students and graduate students may purchase a single entry pass for themselves for $7; a valid UNH I.D. is required. Faculty/Staff may also sponsor themselves at a rate of $5 for a single entry. A guest of the above groups may enter with them for $10. The pass is valid for one entry into the facility.
What are the policies on membership for family members?
Faculty/Staff and student spouse memberships are available and can be found in our membership information on the website. Currently we are not offering memberships to dependents of our members. However, you may bring them in as a guest for an additional $10 per visit.
What are the building hours?
Academic year, September through May, facility hours:
Monday – Thursday 6:30 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Friday 6:30 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. - 7p.m.
Sunday 12pm – 10pm
Summer and winter break facility hours vary and can be found on the website prior to and during breaks.
The Beckerman Center is closed New Years Day, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4, Thanksgiving, Christmas and one week over Winter Break for routine maintenance. Hours are limited on New Year’s Eve, Labor Day, Christmas Eve, and December 26; please watch for signs posted one week prior to the holiday for exact hours. Please note: Access to the facility is not permitted prior to scheduled opening time. All activity ends at building closing time; members have 15 minutes to exit the facility.
When can I purchase a membership?
Memberships can be processed in person anytime the building is open at the Welcome Desk.
When is the facility busiest?
Peak times vary, but typically the building is busiest 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday.
May a membership be “frozen” or put on hold for a length of time?
Memberships may only be frozen for medical reasons. Memberships are not put on hold for vacations, work leaves of absences, or summer months.
What types of lockers are available?
Full size lockers are available to rent; please check the Equipment Issue for availability and cost. Additionally, there are full size lockers for day use. You can bring your own lock or purchase one from our pro-shop. New! Wallet lockers are now available in the upstairs fitness center.
What about towels?
Towels are available for checkout at equipment issue.
How do I reserve a racquetball court?
Reservations may be made in person or over the phone one day in advance. Reservations are for one hour. After a ten-minute grace period, the reservation is lost and anyone may use the court.
What if I forgot my ID? May I still enter the facility?
Sorry, no. Proper membership identification is required for facility entry. Showing proper identification to the Entrance Attendant is the only acceptable method of proving your membership status. A vaild driver's license or other form of picture ID is acceptable.
What equipment is available for check out?
A variety of equipment is available for free daily check out with ID card: basketballs, volleyballs, soccer balls, table tennis paddles, jump ropes, board games, playing cards, and footballs. The list of items available for check out and for sale change often so please be sure to stop by the equipment issue desk or call x2966 for an updated list.

Are spectators allowed?
Spectators are allowed into the facility to watch scheduled activities such as RecSports or club sports contests. Non-members can get prior approval from the program director.
Is parking available?
There is no special or specific parking associated with your membership.
Is babysitting available?
Sorry, no.
Programs and Fitness Services
Do you offer personal training and massage? Can I bring my own personal trainer?
Personal training will be available for members by the Fall 2008 Semester. Please refer to the website or the fitness brochure for the most updated information. All personal trainers must be hired through Campus Recreation.
May non-members participate in instructional programs and fitness services?
Yes, but they must enter as a “guest” or they must purchase a “self sponsored pass” in order to gain entry into the building first.
Do you have group fitness classes? What other classes are available?
Yes, and all of our basic classes are free! Classes are scheduled daily and include Spinning, Step, Zumba and many others. Please refer to the current schedule for class times and descriptions.
Other Instructional classes will be available throughout the semester so check the website and the fitness brochure for more information.
Do you have to be a member to take classes?
No, you may self sponsor yourself for a fee and have the full benefits as a member for that one visit, this includes our basic free classes.
Who may participate in the Rec Sports program?
Intramural registration is FREE to all current students, faculty, and staff with a valid UNH I.D.
If activities are held in the Beckerman Recreation Center, the individual must either be a member or self sponsor them self for $7 each intramural game/contest. Be sure to check out all of our sports/activities on the website or stop in and see what you can play today!
Can I reserve the Beckerman Center?
ChargerREC programs and allowing for adequate drop in/leisure recreation times always take priority in reserving facility spaces within the Beckerman Center. An application to reserve sections of the facility is available at the membership desk and must be submitted before your event is considered.
Are there open studio times?
Yes, we now offer open studio times to meet your recreational needs! Please refer to our Fitness and Wellness section for the full schedule.
What can I do in the open studio?
The studios may be used as a private space to stretch, perform fitball exercises or dance. We do not allow any wrestling or contact martial arts. Standard group fintess studio rules apply.
