Teresa will be graduating with a B.A. in English with a concentration in Writing and a minor in Sociology in Spring 2016. During the summer of 2015, Teresa worked on a SURF project with Dr. Mary Isbell transcribing over 20 handwritten and published issues of The Young Idea , a naval journal written in 1857. Teresa continued working on her own faculty-mentored research over the summer, which studied 19th century English humor and the relationship between group isolation and changes in individual humor.Teresa believes that these experiential learning opportunities have not only strengthened her skills as a writer, but have also helped her manage the workload of a demanding job and ultimately prepare herself for a career in editing.
Teresa served as 2015-2016 President of the University of New Haven Chapter Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society, Assistant Director for the Fall 2015 Theater Production Psycho Beach Party , 2014-2015 Vice President and 2015-2016 Secretary of the MOGAIlize LG BT activism group, and Media Coordinator for the Quidditch Team on campus. She also worked as a Peer Tutor and Social Media Coordinator for the University of New Haven’s Writer to Writer program, in which she tutored students who sought assistance to strengthen and develop their writing skills. Furthermore, Teresa served on the Common Read Committee along with English Department faculty members, where she assisted in the selection of new literature for incoming First-Year students.
