6th Annual Veterans Day Celebration
Honoring the Heroes Among Us
Monday, November 12, 2007
On Monday, November 12, 2007, the University of New Haven recognized the sacrifices of faculty, staff, alumni and current students who have or are currently serving in the Armed Forces of the United States at its 6th Annual Veterans Day Celebration.
For the first-time in the history of the Celebration, the University presented the Connecticut Wartime Service Medal. In it's inaugural year, 12 members of the UNH Community received the honor.
Dr. Linda Spoonster Schwartz, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Veterans’ Affairs, was on hand to award the Medals.
She reminded the crowd of more than 100 that on Veterans Day 2007, "we are reminded that those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who stood with them to defend our liberties are a reminder that our Nation has been blessed with generation upon generation of Americans who have always answered the call to serve the cause of peace and freedom her in America and around the globe."
