dengal hygieneA dental hygienist does much more than clean and polish teeth. By helping to prevent cavities and gum disease, dental hygienists guard their patients’ overall health. Our dental hygiene programs — some of the finest in the country — will qualify you to practice in this important field.

During the Dental Hygiene Open House, you will have a chance to meet with members of our admissions staff, hear from faculty and students in the Dental Hygiene program, and learn more about some of our popular initiatives including field work and study abroad/study away opportunities. 

Learn in a state-of-the-art facility

You'll get your clinical education in the University of New Haven Dental Center, which includes:

  • The latest technological advances in dental hygiene standards and infection control
  • Nineteen patient treatment stations with chair-side computers
  • Radiology and dental materials laboratories
  • A cutting-edge instrument transfer and central sterilization area
  • Lecture room
  • Multimedia computers, complete with an assortment of instructional programs to help you in  your studies
  • Additional faculty-led tutorial sessions
  • Peer tutors
  • Intern here or overseas

You'll have the chance to test your mettle in the real world long before you graduate. After starting in our on-campus clinic, you'll rotate to off-campus locations that include:

  • A U.S. military dental clinic
  • Driggs Elementary School, Waterbury, CT
  • VA Connecticut Healthcare System
  • StayWell Community Health Center
  • Yale-New Haven Hospital, Department of Dentistry
  • Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury

Then, if you enroll in the bachelor's completion program after receiving your associate's degree at the University of New Haven, you'll have some amazing academic service, study abroad/study away opportunities - working on Cherokee and Navajo reservations in North Carolina and Arizona and in foreign locations such as Romania, Honduras and Mexico.
