Transfer Credit Evaluations

Transfer credits are evaluated at the time of application, and students will receive a preliminary transfer credit evaluation two to three weeks from the date of acceptance. The academic department to which the student applied will make a final determination of transfer credits. Evaluation of transfer credit is based on the following criteria:

• Credit will be considered only for transfer courses that are equivalent to UNH courses or electives; all accepted credit must pertain to UNH degree requirements.
• Credit for the course must have been earned at a regionally-accredited institution.
• Course grade must be a "C" or better. Credit is not awarded for pass/fail courses.
• Remedial, technical, and vocational courses do not transfer to the University of New Haven.
• Students may transfer a maximum of 60 credits from two-year institutions and a maximum of 90 credits from four-year institutions. Credits for courses above the maximum threshold must be approved by the Dean of the College a student is seeking entry to. 
• A student's final 30 credits must be earned in residency at UNH to receive a degree from the university.
• All credits are subject to final approval of the Registrar's Office and the academic department.
• Students applying to transfer in to the Interior Design program must submit a portfolio for consideration by the faculty in the department.

We strongly encourage transfer students to contact us or to meet with a transfer counselor to discuss transfer credits and/or to request an academic worksheet for their program of interest.

The University recognizes the College Entrance Examination Board's Advanced Placement Program (AP), the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
