Fire Science
The field of Fire Science is constantly growing, and UNH offers a variety of programs to students looking to enter into the profession. At UNH, the student can choose one of three concentrations: fire science technology, fire administration or fire/arson investigation. Both Bachelors of Science and Masters degrees are available. A combination of classroom lectures, laboratory sessions, case studies and field trips give students the broadest possible exposure to the area of fire science. The distinguished faculty offer up their own experience, as firefighters and more, and can describe real-life situations that students are likely to face in the future. Additionally, students receive hands-on experience in UNH's state-of-the-art labs as well as out in the field. Students are given the opportunity to participate in the Fire Science Club, an active community that organizes field trips, fire safety and substance abuse programs and other activities, both on and off campus. UNH also hosts part of the Student Branch of the Connecticut Valley Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. The society is a professional one for fire science students, and works closely with the Fire Science Club to provide programs and field trips with a strong technical basis.
