General Engineering
UNH offers a wide of variety options for prospective engineer majors, including the popular choice of General Engineering (GE). Choosing GE allows the student to focus on other subjects pertaining to his or her interests, while gaining a solid foundation in the field of engineering. Students may eventually choose one of the more specific fields (chemical, electrical, computer, mechanical, civil or environmental) or declare a minor in any other area offered by the University. Why study GE at UNH? The experienced faculty has developed the Multidisciplinary Engineering Foundation Spiral, a unique curriculum within the program. Students will begin hands-on work from day one of classes in their freshmen year, and the first four semesters include experiencing all of the engineering disciplines in a project-based environment. Small class sizes, averaging 18-22, include more contact time with faculty than in other traditional courses - 33% more to be exact! Certainly another inviting aspect includes the fact that GE majors can be easily certified for teaching. The program requires a significant study of math and science, and the application of these subjects in engineering work. This background, along with carefully selected electives, is perfect preparation for teaching. Students may apply to the UNH Master of Science in Education (MSED) program, which will allow them to complete their Master's of Education and receive their teaching certificate just one year after graduation.
