Civil Engineering

Civil engineers take on the problems of life within a community, as experts in areas such as infrastructure rehabilitation and traffic congestion. They have backgrounds in many subjects besides engineering, like mathematics and communication, and are at the forefront of technology. The Tagliatela College of Engineering at UNH offers an outstanding program to future civil engineers, providing them with a strong understanding of the technical, economical, political, ethical and human dimensions of projects they will take on in the future.

The Multidisciplinary Engineering Foundation Spiral is a curriculum that is unique to the Tagliatela College, giving students the knowledge that is necessary to excel in the profession. Practical and laboratory experiences, problem solving and engineering design application are integrated throughout the coursework. Students will begin their hands-on work from day one and will learn about all of the engineering disciplines within their first four semesters. With a working knowledge of civil engineering and many other subjects, UNH graduates are step ahead of their peers.

Outside of class, the department offers many opportunities for the student to learn while getting involved. An active student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers sponsors technical lectures, field trips and other social events for students to interact with practicing professionals. Additionally, the department maintains close ties with civil engineering firms, government agencies and professional organizations like the Connecticut Society of Civil Engineers (CSCE) and the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). With such well-connected people leading the college, students are sure to make contacts that will benefit them well in the future.
