For the second year in a row, the University of New Haven (UNH) is included in the top tier of regional universities in the North by U.S. News & World Report in its annual "America's Best Colleges” rankings.
“The University of New Haven is pleased to be included in the rankings because they are an important resource for students and parents during their college search,” said President Steven H. Kaplan. “In recent years, the university has made substantial investments toward expanding academic programs, enhancing student life and creating state-of-the -art campus facilities” Kaplan said.
The 2012 Best Colleges rankings include more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools compared on a set of up to 16 indicators of excellence. In this year’s rankings, UNH showed significant improvement in the SAT and ACT scores of its entering students.
U.S. News rates 626 regional universities, which provide a full range of undergraduate programs and some master's-level programs but few doctoral programs. The universities are rated against their peers by region: North, South, Midwest and West.
The top tier in the North includes 126 universities. The regional universities are ranked on a number of criteria including peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
