  1. Welcome, Kristin!

So, today is my first day back from break =[. I wish it didn't have to end I had a blast. I stayed at school until Sunday night because I had to work but then I went home. I missed home so it felt good to go back there. But anyway I have 3 classes today. After that I am going to hit the books because I have a few midterms next week. I am NOT looking forward to the calc. midterm at all. I don't know what it is that makes calc so hard but I'm going to study and make magic happen!!! From now until next week its all study and work time and just a little fun time . Welcome to my life =]
I'll write back soon, gotta jet to class.!!!

  2. Midterm Wednesday

It’s Wednesday, and it is dragging on forever. I had a midterm today in Abnormal Psychology. Yeah...I know…ouch. To make it even worse, it was at 9:30 AM. We’ll see how I did in a few days. But how about them Patriots on Monday Night Football? It was such a relief to see them finally play up to their potential...even though it looks like we lost Rodney Harrison for the rest of the season. We can’t look past this Sunday when we play the St. Louis Rams. Well that’s all I have for this Wednesday. I’ll talk to you guys later!

  3. Crazy Week and Weekend

It’s been awhile, so I’ll get right into it. Last week I went out and saw Max Payne, starring Mark Wahlberg. It was a pretty good. If you haven’t played the video game or know the story line behind it, you probably won’t understand or follow where the movie is going. Anyways…This weekend was CRAZY! Crazy football games: Cowboys and Colts both lose, and Patriots are playing the Broncos tonight on Monday Night Football. It should be a great game.

Yesterday was also Open House on campus. It was great to see all those prospective students on campus. If you haven’t been to open house yet, you still have a chance! The last open house for this semester is Sunday November 9th. If you need to sign up you can go to www.newhaven.edu/openhouse .

Well that is all I have for today. Hope you have a great day!

  4. My trip to Salem

This weekend was decent overall. Salem was pretty fun. I got to spend 2 days with my family so it was good to see them again. I had enough of Salem after 1 day but I did have fun and learned a lot going in the museums and on tours. We spent most of our time walking through the town, going in the shops, and stopping at the street vendors. It’s definitely something you should do at some point in life just to hear the true stories behind witches and Salem, but 1 day is definitely enough to see everything.

I didn’t get much homework done this weekend because I was actually trying to enjoy my break. I did get my book review done and my labs partially done which was good. Now I’m working on physics and organic chemistry homework. If I can get it done during the day today I may have a free night for the first time since the semester started…! That’s my goal and I should get back to reaching that goal because I would love to relax tonight watching America’s Next Top Model, Paris Hilton’s My New BFF, and eating snacks with my roomies, so… I will talk to you soon!

  5. Columbus Day Break

    Happy Columbus Day!

Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend. We have today and tomorrow off from school. This weekend I went to the Pocono’s with my girlfriend and her friend. The weather was wonderful. The foliage is really coming out now. Autumn is here for sure! Tomorrow we’ll head back to school and its back to reality. Back to work and class on Wednesday. That’s all I have for today.

I’ll talk to you on Wednesday!

  6. A Welcome Long Weekend

Columbus Day weekend is finally here, and with that, UNH has received a very nice break this year. I am off from class and work Friday through Tuesday; Wednesday will be a long day. But right now, I’m sitting in my bed at home and my mom is upstairs making me a grilled cheese. A nice thing about coming home: your mom is always down to cook for you (if you’ve been away long enough).

This week flew by. Monday and Tuesday were pretty typical. Wednesday was my friend’s birthday and we went out for dinner to a hibachi restaurant that’s just up the street from UNH. I’m not a big fan of Japanese food, but it was still a really cool experience since I’ve never been to a restaurant like that before. There are tons of awesome restaurants up the road from UNH, I need to try more of them soon.

Right now I’m taking Music Theory I and Intro to Music Industry…two very difficult classes, at least for me. I didn’t have very much formal training previous to UNH so sometimes I get a little stuck in my theory class. As for Music Industry, there are so many topics covered in class it’s sometimes hard to keep up. I really came into this program completely an amateur. However, I am very happy to say that I received two A’s this week, one in each class. Both of my teachers are willing to give so much extra help, and they both seem to know absolutely everything about music.

Tonight I have to write my article for the next edition of Pulp, which will be out next week. I’m going to cover the comeback of Britney Spears (surprise) and I am so excited. Her new single is doing so well and it’s a lot of fun, I think you should all go buy it on iTunes if you haven’t already. It hit #1 in less than 24 hours and the new video premiers tonight after 20/20! All of you closeted Britney fans, get pumped – she’s doing some big things.

Have fun on this long weekend!

  7. An end to a busy week!

Sorry it has been so long since my last post, but it has been a CRAZY week. I had 2 tests & a midterm within 5 days of each other & that was not fun! Organic chemistry, physics, & calculus II should not exist… end of story. I was studying forever for those exams & it still wasn’t easy at all. I got a decent grade on my Ochem test & I did well in calc II but physics is a different story… BUT he’s curving it, so my grade will be ok.

On top of all the studying for my exams, I have to stay on top of my other classes doing lab reports, reading, & basic studying. And of course I have to have a social life as well which obviously includes boy problems & the never ending girl drama. This week was basically just full of breakdowns & really late nights. It was just a terrible week. Probably the worse week of my college career to date! I’m so glad it’s over!

ANDDDDD I’m going home tonight because we have Monday & Tuesday off!!! So I get a long weekend to spend with my family & friends and its one of my good friend’s birthday this weekend which will be fun. My family is making me go to Salem, MA for 2 days so I’m stuck walking around doing all the “scary” things with them but it should be a good break from school. Minus all the homework I have to do. I don’t know why teachers think that when you have a long weekend that you’ll have MORE time to do homework. I actually have less because all teachers think the same & I would have liked to enjoy my long weekend but that’s not really going to happen. I’ll be doing 3 lab reports, reading a book, then doing a book review on it, organic chemistry online homework, & physics homework… what a great long weekend for me!

Alright I’m off to work now. I’ll be home tonight… yay! I’ll post sometime over the weekend & let you know how it’s going & if I actually find time to enjoy my break & relax. Talk to you soon!

  8. Fire Prevention Week

    Hey Everyone!

How is this Wednesday treating you? Today is the third day of Fire Prevention Week here on campus. During the day today we had the New Haven Fire Department on campus with their “Get out Alive” Smoke Trailer, which basically simulates what your house would look like if it were filled with smoke and you try to find your way out. Tonight there will be live fire extinguisher training.

Not much happened today, I gave a tour to two prospective students. One was interested in Mechanical Engineering, and the other was interested in Psychology, two very popular programs here at UNH! I also had a quiz in one of my classes today. It wasn’t too hard, and I think I aced it.

Well that’s all I have for today! Have a good one!

  9. A Case of the Mondays

    Hey Everyone,

It’s Monday afternoon. Does anyone else have a case of the Mondays? I had absolutely no motivation to do anything this morning when I woke up. But, I manned up and went to class and work. The weather was crummy this morning but now it is nice and sunny.

What a weekend it was for some football. The Colts came back from 17 points down with less than five minutes to play. The Patriots also showed some signs of life yesterday with a big win over the 49ers. Whoever said Matt Cassel couldn’t throw deep should have been taking notes yesterday when he threw a huge 66 yard pass to Randy Moss. There is hope for all us Patriots fans after all! There is no hope for my fantasy team though. Looks like another loss this week.

This week is Fire Prevention Week and the Fire Science Club is going to be hosted a number of events around campus this week. Today there was an information table in the quad. Tomorrow there is an information table in Bartels Hall. Wednesday there is another information table in the Quad, a smoke trailer on the Bartels Patio, and Fire Extinguisher Training at 6:00 PM in the Quad. Thursday there is another information table in Bartels, and the Burn Box at 6:00 PM in front of Bethel Hall. Finally we wrap it all up on Friday with the final information table in the Quad. There will also be Fire Prevention Programs for some the resident halls throughout the week.

That’s all I have for today. Have a good one!

  10. Happy Friday!

    Hey Everyone!

It’s Friday afternoon, and the weekend is upon us. Not much is going on around here. This weekend is Parent’s Weekend here on campus, so a lot of parents are here visiting their kids. I got a ton of work to do this weekend, so I’m going to keep this one short. Lots of football on Sunday, and the key game to watch this weekend is Philadelphia and Washington, it’s a huge divisional game that Philly needs to win. Also, I’m looking for New England and Indianapolis to have big weekends coming off the bye week.

So that’s all I have today! Have a great weekend!

  11. Preview PULP

Hi everyone! Sorry it’s been awhile, what a crazy week I’ve had. Like I mentioned last week, I went to Toad’s Place to see Motion City Soundtrack perform…an absolutely amazing show, Chiodos also played and they were fantastic. I actually reviewed the show for the new UNH music magazine, PULP, which premiered its first issue last Wednesday. The reviews of the show and the Jack’s Mannequin album are up, along with a lot of other great stuff. Definitely check it out at www.PULP.chargerbulletin.com.

Open House was also on Sunday. I hope that those of you who came enjoyed it, there was a great turnout. Anyone who couldn’t make it should definitely try for the next two (October 19 and November 9), all of the families who attended had great things to say.

A lot of my classes this week were cancelled, which was lucky for me because I had some big tests to study for. I’m done with them, thankfully, with the exception of a take-home for Physics that I have yet to start. It’s due Monday, though, so I’m not too worried (yet).

On Thursday BOTH of my daytime classes were cancelled so that I could attend the Bartels Lecture. Rosa Gatti, the senior Vice President of ESPN, spoke to everyone in Dodds Hall. She was a great speaker, especially because she talked a lot about the struggles of being the only woman in her field, and how she overcame them. I was lucky enough to be able to go to a luncheon with her after, and speak to her for a few minutes. She was sure to talk to every student there, and gave each one of us advice. Before I left, I made sure to get her card – I definitely want to keep in contact with her.

Tonight I am just hanging out until later, when my boyfriend gets out of work and picks me up. We’re going to be home for the weekend, and going to his cousin’s wedding; it will be nice to see our families. For now, I’m just going to sit on the couch and watch Gossip Girl on DVD, maybe do my Physics.

Everyone have a great weekend…any questions you have, don’t be shy!

  12. Forensic Science to Education ...

Hello everyone! My name is Brittany, I’m 19, & I’m currently a sophomore. I live on campus with two roommates, Melissa & Staci, & I love them to death! I’m from Middletown, CT, which is fairly close to UNH but I almost never go home. I love it here! All my new friends are here & all my old friends are away at school too so there’s no point to going home. I love the independence anyways.

I came to UNH as a forensic science major & was going the chemistry route, but within a little while, I realized that I just don’t have the passion for forensics like every other forensics major does. Just from being in almost every single class with the same forensic science kids & seeing how into it they were made me realize that I just did not LOVE it like they did. I was always interested in forensic science but I’ve realized that being interested in something is not enough to make it your career. So now I’m in the process of switching my major. I have always wanted to teach elementary school so now I’m going that route. At UNH, they have the Bachelor’s Plus Education program which I’m sure you have or will get information on. The education major is only offered at the Master’s level, but through the Bachelor’s Plus program, you can get your undergraduate degree, start taking some teaching courses your junior & senior years, & then continue on to the Master’s program. Since I want to go for elementary education, I get to choose any major I want really. Most people choose psychology, but I hate psychology so I chose chemistry … really random, but I really like chemistry & I was already on that track as a forensics major. But I’m so excited to teach elementary school! I absolutely LOVE kids!!!

During my fifth year here I will do my student teaching during the day & take classes at night (that’s the layout for the program). I’ll teach somewhere in CT & just about any school district will pay your tuition as compensation for teaching. A free degree definitely sounds good to me so I’m definitely looking forward to that. Then once I graduate I’m going to go work at a school & I’ll always have a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry as a back up. That way I can go work in any lab I want to, which I originally wanted to do anyways. Basically, I have plenty of options.

When I have free time, which isn’t too often, I love to listen to music, watch movies, especially Disney movies!, go to the gym, & eat candy. Those last two kind of cancel each other out, but that’s ok. At least I’m doing both. I just started going to the gym again, but I definitely enjoy it. I like waking up in the morning in pain but its good pain because I’m slowly seeing my work paying off.

Well that’s enough about me for now. I’m going to the mall with some friends now to do some much needed shopping! If anyone has questions feel free to ask. I love to talk! Check back soon!

  13. Lots going on ...

    Hey Everyone!

Sorry it has been so long since my last post, but a lot has gone on! Friday was a rainy day, so not much really happened, but I tried to post a blog for that day and there were some technical problems, so it never got up.

Sunday was the University’s first Open House for the semester! We had a lot of prospective students come and visit our campus and check out all the cool stuff that UNH has to offer. If you missed the Open House, don’t worry, there are two more coming up. The next one is Sunday, October 19th, and the last one for the fall semester will be Sunday November 9th. If you would like to register for the Open House you can go to www.newhaven.edu/openhouse.

On Monday I had another Charger Day! A prospective student named Scott shadowed me for the day and went to my Emergency Incident Management class with me. He also met with one of the Baseball Coaches. Charger Days are completely customizable and you can choose from a ton of things to do! You can sign up for a Charger Day by going to www.newhaven.edu/chargerdays.

Some of you may not have known this but on Thursday of last week the final beam was placed for our new residence hall. You can check out the news coverage by following this link: www.newhaven.edu/prospective/24745. Also, our new Blue and Yellow Turf field for the football team was completed last week. It is only the second blue and yellow turf field in the county! It is going to be awesome to see the football team play on that.

That brings us to today. Nothing is really happening today, which gives me a chance to take a break and catch my breath after a very hectic weekend.

That’s all I have for today, so I’ll talk to you guys later!

  14. A busy, busy week

The past week has been insanely busy. The midterm for my accelerated Finance class is today, so I’ve been studying a lot for that. I have a presentation to give next Tuesday in my Marketing class, so I’ve been in the library working on that a lot. My History midterm is next week too, so I have that to study for too. I have to write a ballad too for my creative writing class. I can’t wait until next week is over!

The speech by David Schreff, the former president of marketing for the NBA was awesome. It definitely helped me make up my mind about marketing—if I can do it, I’m going to go for the third major. It seems like such an interesting area to study, consumer behavior and market trends and all that.

Sunday was our first Open House of the year, and there were so many people! Every year there is more and more interest in the school, which is great. It was a really long day, and after work I took a three hour nap!

Tomorrow is the Bartels lecture, and the speaker is the vice president of ESPN Rosa Gatti. So, my professor, like most others, is having us go to the lecture instead of class. The lectures are always interesting, and it’s great that the Bartels family gives the students such an amazing opportunity every semester.

The men’s lacrosse team is having an alumni game this weekend, so I’m going to go support my boyfriend and the rest of the team. I never knew what lacrosse was until I met him and now I love it! And, it’s going to be up at north campus on the new turf field, and it’ll be my first time up there since its been redone, so I can’t wait.

    That’s all for now!

  15. Happy Wednesday

I love Wednesdays…because the next day is Thursday, and at 8:40 p.m., I am done with classes for the week. It’s such a great feeling. The last class is always interesting, too, because it’s Intro to Music Industry and my teacher really knows what he’s talking about. Any other class going that late on a Thursday, I might be upset; this one really isn’t so bad.

I just finished writing a review of the new Jack’s Mannequin CD for the brand new UNH music magazine, Pulp. I’m really excited for this new opportunity because it’s a great combination of both of my majors. For the beginning, it’s going to be online and bi-weekly. It premieres October 1st, that’s next Wednesday. I will definitely be posting the link, everyone must be sure to check it out.

If anyone was wondering, the new Jack’s CD is amazing. It comes out on Tuesday; I pre-ordered it in May and will definitely be driving home to pick it up.

This Sunday is the Open House and I will be working, I hope to see a ton of you there. That night, I’m heading down to Toad’s Place to see Motion City Soundtrack. Toad’s Place is always fun, and so close to school; I try to get there as often as possible.

Hope everyone has a good week!

  16. A Change of Pace

Today was a nice change of pace—instead of class we went to Dodds Auditorium to see the Connecticut State Supreme Appellate Court hear a trial right here at UNH. It was really interesting to see how the lawyers approached their sides of the case, and how the arguments differed from their different points of view.  As bad as it sounds, my favorite part was when the judges grilled the lawyers for answers; the defense attorney seemed nervous, and the assistant district attorney seemed to know all her stuff.

Tomorrow, my Marketing class is going to see an important person in the marketing industry speak to the students here. The former Marketing President of the NBA David Schreff is coming to talk, and I’m really interested to hear what he’s got to say. I’m thinking of picking up marketing as a third major, so what he says will definitely have an impact on my final decision.
Right outside of my bedroom window is the construction for the new building. Even though they wake me up every morning, it will totally be worth it when I get my own bedroom next year. The beam-signing ceremony is tomorrow, so I want to go and leave my mark on UNH in some way before I leave

    Have a great day!

  17. My First Charger Day

How are things going on this Wednesday? Things here are pretty good. I had my first Charger Day today! If you don’t know what a Charger Day is, it is basically a day where a prospective student can come to campus and shadow a current student in the area in which you would like to major. The day is totally customizable. You can choose from sitting in on a class, meet with faculty members, meet with a coach, etc. If you would like to know more about Charger Days, you can go to www.newhaven.edu/chargerdays.

Today at 4:30 the Fire Science Club is having a little BBQ for its members, just to break up the monotonous meetings. So, it should be a good time. That’s all I really have for today, so have a great afternoon!

I’ll remember to post on Friday, I promise!

  18. A busy weekend

How is everything going? Sorry I didn’t get to post on Friday, it was a pretty busy day. I had class and had a ton of errands to run before the weekend. I ended up going to the Big E this weekend. If you don’t know what the Big E is, well then I suggest you take the time to find out and go. More information can be found at their website, www.thebige.com.

Sunday was the same as usually, football. It was a sad day for Patriots fan, who saw the Pats’ regular season winning streak come to an end at 21 wins. The last time the Patriots lost was in 2006 to the Miami Dolphins, who beat them this weekend. As much as it was horrible to see the Patriots lose, it was good to see Coach Tony Sparano earn his victory in the National Football League. For those of you who don’t know, Coach Sparano graduated from the University of New Haven, and was a player on the football team here while he was a student, and later coached the team. Congratulations Coach Sparano!

This week is already revving up to be a busy one. We had an online-chat for prospective students last night (thank-you to everyone who sat down for a little while to chat with us! It was fun talking to you guys!), and we have an open house coming up this weekend, so everyone is getting ready for that.

Well, that’s all I have for today, so until Wednesday have a great day!

  19. Working for the Weekend

Here I am with the first chance I’ve had all week to relax, and I’m getting sick. I’m glad it’s Saturday; despite strep throat making it’s way into my life, I’ve had a fun weekend so far. Thursday night we hung out with some kids who have a house off of campus, and last night I visited some friends from high school who go to Quinnipiac University. It was so nice because QU is only about a 10-15 minute drive from here. I met about a hundred new people (literally), so it was a good time.

This week has been probably the most hectic of my college career yet. Aside from classes and work, I’ve been finding other activities to build up my resume. I found a great internship on Blackboard that I want to apply for, and I need to start getting some more experience. It’s for communications, so it includes a lot of writing. I’ve talked to some people in the admissions office and pretty soon I might be starting work on some writing projects with them.

Another activity I started this week was PCMA, which stands for Professional Convention Management Association. My roommate is the secretary, so I figured I’d tag along. I’m glad I did, because they go to a lot of conferences and meet some great contacts. They also do some community service. I’m pretty excited to get more involved in this club, it should be fun.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  20. The Weekend is Here!

Ah the weekend is here again! It's so nice to wake up and not have work or class! Since I have no classes on Friday, I try to get all of my homework done Thursday  night or Friday during the day, that way I can have the rest of the weekend to relax and hang out.

A bunch of us went to the Rec Center last weekend and played a game of pickup volleyball, and I think we're going to do that again tomorrow. I got hit in the face last time, so let's hope I've improved since then :) I'm also going to run home real quick to see my brother's baseball game and hang out with my mom for a little bit. As much as I love it here, it is nice to be able to run home and see some familiar faces. And free laundry.

I was able to catch the lecture by the Secretary of the State of Connecticut, Susan Bysiewicz, this week for my Business Law class. It was really interesting to hear how the state is trying to register voters, both young and old, and how important every single vote will be in the upcoming election.

Well, I'm off. Have a good weekend!

  21. Some Shout Outs

I hope everyone is doing well. So, I had my first quiz of the semester today, and I think I did alright. We’ll see when I get it back. Other than that nothing really has been going on this week. The only exciting point of the week so far has been Monday night. My roommates and I had some people over to watch the game, and like I said Philly had a big game offensively, but Dallas just had a bigger one.

I am going to take the time now to mention my roommates and friends for two reasons: 1) They read my first two blogs and complained they weren’t in them, and 2) They are going to get mentioned eventually. So I live with three characters named Rob, Matt and Brian. This is the third year I have lived with Rob and Matt, and the second with Brian. My friends on campus include my girlfriend Michelle and then there is the other Matt, Jess, Meg and Ashley. There are tons of other people who I didn’t mention, but those eight are the people I spend most of my free time with.

Now that I got the shout-outs out of the way, I can keep going with today’s post. I’m going on a little field trip for one of my classes tonight, which I’m really looking forward too. Before that though, the Fire Science Club has their meeting at 4:30 PM, so I’ll be there. Well, that is all I have for today. I’ll be back on Friday.

  22. Patriot Collapse?

What’s going on? Hope everything is going well on this Monday. It was an eventful weekend. Yesterday I went with a few members of the Fire Science Club downtown to help out St. Mary’s Church cook food for a homeless shelter in New Haven. After that, I watched some football and relaxed.

Today I had two classes and worked in between. My first round of quizzes is coming up this week. So I have to find some time to start studying for them.

But, I am looking forward to tonight’s Monday Night Football game, Philadelphia at Dallas; it should be a good one. I am expecting Philly to have a good game offensively. Since 2001, Philadelphia has led the series 10-4 (thanks ESPN). Tony Romo should tell Jessica to stay out of the prediction department, she isn’t helping much.

And how about them Patriots? Whoever thought they would collapse without Tom Brady was mistaken. They are not the same offense with Matt Cassel (16-23, 165 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs) in as quarterback, but they are still the team to beat in the AFC (call me bias).

That is all I have for today. Not much has happened in between my last blog and this one. So, until next time, have some fun, but stay safe.

  23. Kait's First Post!

Hi everyone, and thanks for stopping by my blog! I’m Kait, and I’m 19 years old. I’m a sophomore at UNH, double majoring in Music Industry and Communication, with a concentration in Journalism. I live in Waterbury, Connecticut, which is about a half hour to 45 minutes away from campus. I’m pretty close to home, but the drive gets longer every time.

I work in the Admissions office at UNH, which is where I spend most of my afternoons during the week. I enter in all of the cards you filled out at the college fairs (please, make sure your handwriting is clear), stuff the envelopes that pile up in your mailboxes, file your applications and a ton of other stuff. I started working there at the end of September 2007. They told me that I would always have something to do, but I didn’t think they were serious. They were.

I absolutely love both of my majors, but of course they don’t coincide at all. I entered UNH solely as a Music Industry major, and in the Spring 08 semester I added Communication. So, technically, I am in my first semester as a Communication major. I took some classes over the summer, and I’ll probably take them over breaks for the rest of my college career…I don’t think I can afford to be here for six (or maybe more) years. But I absolutely love music and have always wanted to be a journalist, so it’s worth it.

As a music major, it probably goes without saying that I am obsessed with music. My favorite band of all time is Something Corporate, with Jack’s Mannequin coming in at a close second…Andrew McMahon is amazing (and coming to Toad’s Place in November, get tickets!). I’m also a huge Beatles fan, Eleanor Rigby being my current favorite song. Other favorite bands include Brand New, Ace Enders, Blink 182, Taking Back Sunday, the Pink Spiders and Paramore. Oh, and I’ve been a massive Britney Spears fan for almost 10 years and am sooo happy she won those three VMA’s…she totally deserved them. Not a fan of country music, the single exception being Shania Twain. I used to be totally against rap, but I am a little more accepting of it now; I love Kanye. Still, I wish Travis Barker would remix every rap song, they would be so much better.

The only time in my life that I have ever liked sports was during the UConn Basketball glory days. I met Diana Taurasi once, that was pretty cool. I’m also a Yankees fan by association since my whole family loves them (definitely cannot STAND the Red Sox). Other than that, I have nothing more to say on sports.

Across the Universe is the best movie, hands down. Degrassi is the best TV show. I don’t really like chick-flicks except for 50 First Dates, and I am in love with VH1 reality shows. I read Perez Hilton all the time. I grew up with Harry Potter. I enjoy learning about the 1960’s, and 1970’s punk rock. Unfortunately, I only just made it to CBGB this summer but it was still awesome.

I could probably have at least an hour long conversation about anything I mentioned above (except, obviously, sports). So feel free to tell me what you think, and ask me anything about UNH. I would love to hear from you! I’ll be back soon.

  24. We're Back!

So we’ve been back for about two weeks now and everyone is finally all settled in. Classes are going well so far, and work and club activities keep me busy every day. We’re in an apartment style residence hall this year, and the five of us are like mini-Martha Stewarts with all of the baking and crafts we do now. I’m aiming at being more organized this year, and so far its going well with my color-coded binders and folders, but we’ll have to see how long that lasts J

My roommates and I are actually getting ready right now to go the football scrimmage against Yale at the Yale bowl and we’re all pumped—we even made t-shirts last week! The team won its scrimmage against Salve Regina last week, and I can’t wait to see them play Yale today. Either way, win or lose, it’s still exciting! Football is back! The new turf field should be done soon, and I really want to see how the blue and gold looks on it. It’s awesome to see the sports games become bigger every year, and next year will be so much fun with the official return of the football team, homecoming, and all of the insanity that accompanies it.

Gotta go—we’re stopping at Dunkin Donuts real quick, and then we’re off to see our boys take on Yale. Go Chargers!

  25. Welcome to my Blog!

Hey everyone, hope things are going well for you. Welcome to my blog. My name is Donny and I am 21 years old, and a senior here at the University of New Haven. My major is Fire Science, with a concentration in Arson Investigation. I’m from East Granby, Connecticut, which is about an hours drive north from school. Back home I have been involved with the volunteer fire department for just over seven years now.

More recently I spent this past summer on campus to work for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. I still currently work there. When I am in the office, I work on the mail that you receive from the University. I also work on the packets that you receive when you come to visit us.

To tell you a little more about myself, I am a HUGE sports fan. It really doesn’t matter what sport it is, but my favorites are football, soccer, hockey, and NASCAR. I love participating in sports so I try to get to the recreation center here on campus as much as I can to play some pick-up games of floor hockey. In the fall of 2009 the University’s football team will be back playing a full schedule in the Northeast-10. Unfortunately, I am graduating this spring, but it is exciting to the see a partial team practice on campus and all the hype that is involved with a football team.

My favorite teams are the New England Patriots and the Detroit Red Wings. My favorite drivers are Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson…you just can’t mess with domination.

I’m listening to my iPod Touch while I am writing this and some of the music that has come up has been Dave Matthews Band, Linkin Park, Jay-Z, Matchbox Twenty, etc. I also like country music. Basically I like any type of music that sounds good and I can understand the words. I really don’t like it when the “singer” gets up and just screams into the microphone. That isn’t music to me.

One of my favorite things to do in my spare time is to watch movies. I love movies. I love comedies and action films. Will Ferrell has to be the best comedian in film today. He had a couple of misses, but most of his stuff is quality. Two huge movies came out this summer that I absolutely loved – The Dark Knight (saw it three times) and Iron Man (saw it twice). I can’t wait for them to come out on DVD. Also, it is kinda weird (but a lot of people I know do it), I frequently use quotes from movies in conversations I am having with people (where it applies). Mostly I drop Will Ferrell lines.

So that is me in a nutshell. There will be much more to come. Believe it or not, this is the first blog I have ever done, so I hope I did alright. My blogs are going to consist of what I have been up to, what I am going to be doing, some of the other stuff going on around campus, and of course sports. If I am not talking about something that you want to hear about, let me know! This is my fourth year on campus, if I don’t know something I usually know where to find the answer.  I’m not going to sugar-coat anything I tell you, I’m just going to say it how it is.

Can’t wait to hear back from you, and until next time…“You stay classy San Diego” (see, told you…Will Ferrell).
