  1. Home Sweet Home

It is almost like too much of a tease to come home on Wednesday and go back home on Sunday, but it was a wonderful getaway.  I wanted nothing more to come home see my family, my friends, and my hot tub.  So far I have spent every day with my family, and every night in my hot tub.  I swear I have gone to heaven.  It is the most relaxing thing to just laying in the 102 degree water with some light music on, and look up at the stars.  If it wasn’t for the fear of drowning I would sleep there lol.  Also coming home and seeing my lovely queen size bed and being able to spread out and take up the entire bed, but then realize how used to a twin you’ve gone when you wake up curled into a ball on one side of the bed.  But by far the best part of going home has been FREE LAUNDRY!!!  I think I’m already at 3 loads done with one in the dryer as we speak.  And I’ve been putting off folding it all before I have to go back.

Either way, it has been great to be home, and slowly I have been glancing over at my book bag and realizing that I should probably get started on all that homework I have left to complete.

Hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving Dinner, I know I did (and still am…sooooo much Turkey!!!)

  2. Back after Turkey Day!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, I definitely did. My aunt and uncle had family over and it was a really fun day. Other than that, I haven't done much over this break. I saw Twilight with a friend the first night back; I didn't read the books but I am definitely considering it now because I loved the movie and want to know what happens next. Two of my roommates are speeding through the books so I may borrow one for the winter break.

Well, my Mac somehow ended up having extensive liquid damage. I have no idea why...if I spilled something on it, I would have immediately brought it in. So I don't know what happened, but they wanted to charge me $1240 for it. They brought it down to half-price after some bargaining so hopefully I will have it back and fully repaired in a week. I am definitely putting the case and keyboard cover on my Christmas list, along with iTunes gift cards because I lost thousands of songs. All of those crappy downloaded songs were taking up all of my space though, and so it's my new personal rule to buy all of my music from iTunes or a store. I figured it's pretty hypocritical to be a Music Industry major and be downloading music, anyway.

Last Monday the Legal Society at UNH hosted a Law Admissions Panel where admissions counselors from four law schools in surrounding areas talked about getting into law school and everything that comes with it. I've been thinking about making that the next step after UNH and then I got an e-mail about the panel. It was really cool, very helpful and is making me consider going into law even further. Even better, Music Industry is a great major to work toward entertainment law, and Communications is great because it gives me a lot of writing experience. However, it's just an idea right now and I'm only a sophmore, so I'll probably give it some more serious thought next year.

I am so happy that once we get back to school, we're really almost finished. I have one physics lab left, three each of my twice a week classes, and just a review for Music Industry. Then it's exam week, which is always bittersweet. I just cannot wait for Physics to be over. I think time goes by faster with each semester, it's crazy.

Now that Thanksgiving is over it's officially the Christmas season, I can't wait to decorate!

  3. Home for Break

I'm home for Thanksgiving Break. Today was such a rush trying to tie up all the loose ends before I left. I spent most of the day cleaning my room and packing. Now that I am home, its back to helping out down at the firehouse. Tonight, the Christmas Trees are being delivered for our annual fund raiser. It is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. I'm looking forward to turkey and football. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday!

  4. Being Sick Stinks

Sorry for the huge time gap between posts. I have been really sick basically since school started but especially these past 2 ½ weeks. I tested positive for strep throat a little over 2 weeks ago after 2 negative rapid tests and finally my lab test came back positive… stupid.  So I started taking my antibiotics for that on a Saturday and then Monday I thought I was either dying or having a reaction to the medication and my stomach was in more pain than I thought possible so I called my mom of course and ended up making a visit to my doctor at home to see what was going on. She didn’t really think there was anything wrong with me… but because I’ve been getting sick so often she gave me 5 things I had to do to try to boost my immune system and prevent myself from getting more sick. I have to eat healthy- lots of fruits and vegetables, eat foods high in antioxidants, go to the gym AT LEAST 3-4 times a week (which is not a small number… that’s a whole lot of gym for me lol), drink 2 glasses of milk a day or make sure I keep taking my multi-vitamin, and be happy (like that’s easy with all the drama and stress that comes with being a college student). And she thinks my stomach just produces a lot of extra acid so I can’t eat too many acidic foods and I have to take an acid reducer everyday. I’ve basically concluded that my body hates me.

So this past week I decided to go to Health Services at UNH because I had coughed up blood a couple times (sorry if this grosses you out) in the last 2 months and wanted to make sure I was ok. The doctor there was pretty sure it was just irritation but ordered a chest x-ray just to be sure. And then come to find out after my x-ray results come back, I have pneumonia… great! I guess the best news out of that is that the antibiotics I took for my strep throat cover pneumonia as well so I happened to treat my pneumonia at the same time as my strep and didn’t even know it. So I’m not taking any new medication which is good because I absolutely hate taking medicine! I just have to have another chest x-ray in 2 months to make sure things cleared. Now I’m positive that my body hates me!

Soooo that’s why I haven’t been on top of things lately and been slacking a little on the posting. I hope everyone has a safe, fun, and HEALTHY Thanksgiving and I’ll definitely post over the break!

  5. The Day of Rest

Today I have successfully used this day to its full resting potential.  Today (Sunday) I slept till four in the afternoon, and it was amazing.  My original plan was to wake up about 11am go to the gym, get some brunch, do some homework, and then kick back and relax for the rest of the day.  Sooo let’s just say that when my alarm clock went off at 11 I rolled over slammed on the off button and went right back to sleep.  Next thing I realized it was 4:05pm and I had no desire to go to the gym at all.  Can you guess what I did?  I turned on some afternoon cartoons and made myself a gigantic bowl of fruity pebbles!  It was amazing, I felt like I was back in elementary school and it was the best way to end/start the week.  Unfortunately soon after finishing that bowl of cereal I had to snap back to reality and do some homework.  Not too much of course, but just enough to not feel like a total bum.

With Thanksgiving so close, like many others, I am ready to be home bound and have little worries for a few days.

Ok enough procrastinating, back to finishing up these physics problems so I can enjoy some TV.

  6. Is Anyone Else Starting To Feel It?

The semester is beginning to wind down and we all can taste the sensation of the sweet winter break.  But before that I know I can’t wait to bite down into some sweet sensational turkey.  It is kind of sad how that is the only thing on my mind right now.  I have yet to go home since coming to school this semester, and I’m ready to lie in my own bed, see my dog, and relax outside in the hot tub.  Don’t get me wrong, I love it here at UNH with my second family, but sometimes it is nice to see the family back at home.  I am dedicating this whole weekend to doing homework so I have nothing to worry about when I’m home besides deciding how I want to relax =).  Plus I also can’t wait to go home because I am running low on clean clothes, and you can’t beat free laundry services at home, a.k.a. mom lol.  (I feel that if she were as I typed that I would have gotten a slap on the back of the head =P)

    MMMMMM Turkey!!! – Sorry I’m really hungry…

But yeah it is nice to see that this semester went by so fast, and now I just need to finish up with finals and… we are literally home free!!!

I like how even though we may be winding down, the activities on campus sure aren’t.  Be sure you come out this weekend for the Fall Festival in the Quad on Friday and Bookstore Parking Lot on Saturday.  It should be a good time and lots of fun for those of us who are still on campus because we have class Monday and/or Tuesday.

Well everyone, hopefully the next time you hear from me I’ll have a belly full of Turkey.

    Gobble Gobble!!!

  7. Another trip to the Apple Store

There is so much going on in the Admissions office right now. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we're all scrambling to finish up some projects before we go on vacation. It's going to be crazy in the next week, but I can't wait to finish up and go home for a long weekend.

My laptop crashed AGAIN last night, I don't know what to do with it. I probably don't take care of it like I should...hopefully they can fix it before I lose it for good. Looks like another trip to the Apple Store is needed.

In my media writing class we've been writing print stories, and we've just now switched over to radio. We learned the proper format and timing of writing a radio story - which is really hard until you get used to. On Tuesday we're actually going down to the UNH radio station and recording our stories that we wrote ourselves, and I guess they will be played back to us. Definitely a difficult thing writing a 30 second story, nevermind reading it aloud to not go over the limit.

Registration went well last week, but I didn't get into my History of Rock course. Instead, I'm taking a Principles of Marketing class, another required class for Music Industry. My Wednesdays are going to be out of control, pretty much class all day from 9:25 until 5:45. I'll be able to handle it, though...I hope!

Well, it's back to work and then straight to the library to work on my next article for PULP. Not having a working computer in college is one of my least favorite things.

  8. Break is Approaching!

    Hi all,
So, Thanksgiving break is approaching and I can not wait! As soon as that clock strikes 2:55 I am going straight to my car from class, well hopefully if I don't have to work, if i do I will be in CT until about 10 p.m. Once I get out of work I will be heading home no if ands or buts about it! I want to go home and lay in my own bed. I miss my friends and family even my annoying but cute cat and dog! I just need a mini break. On a brighter note, my day is half way through. After my next class I am heading to work until 10 then coming home to hit the books like always. I need to get my resume in order for my internship interview on the 25! I have so much to do and so little time. It's getting stressful but I can handle it =]. I always make some way some how lol. Well let me get back to business, once again I am using this blog to procrastinate lol!

A little something to remember: Always believe in you. Listen to your heart. Trust your instincts. Know you can! See your own strenghts. Dream it- Dare it! Do what you are afraid of. Keep the faith. Follow your visions. Most importantly, REMEMBER, anything is possible if only you believe!

  9. Rollin' til break

    Hey Everybody!

It’s Wednesday! 8 Days until Thanksgiving! I can’t wait. But its crunch time around here. Classes are winding down. For the evening sections of classes (the ones that only meet once a week) I only have a couple classes left. I still have a ton projects to do. I have 3 due the day we get back from Thanksgiving break, so you know what I’ll be doing then. The Fire Science Club meeting is this afternoon at 4:30, after that its back to work on those projects. Good thing senioritis hasn’t set in yet. I’m still motivated to do work. That’s all I have for today.

  10. 10 Days 'til Turkey Day

    Hey Everybody!

Winter is coming! It is getting darker earlier now. That also means the end of the semester is just around the corner. 10 days until Thanksgiving! I’m heading home next Monday. I can’t wait for home cooked meals. With the end of the semester also means papers, projects and finals. It seems like all of my professors want papers due before Thanksgiving so they have time to grade them. So I’ll be busy with that for the next couple of days.

Until next time – Stay Warm!

  11. Cirque Du Solei

Yet another reason why I adore being a part of SCOPE (Student Committee Of Programming Events), because who else can take a bus load on college students to New York City for the day to see Cirque Du Solei and only have to charge the students $10.00.  That is insane!!!  It was another great weekend on New York soil.  Not having my car on campus I am left to rely on these kinds of off-campus trips to have some fun beyond Boston Post Road.  There is nothing like waking up, hopping onto a coach bus, and kicking back and relaxing till you reach your destination.  In this case it was Madison Square Garden for their showing of Cirque Du Solei.  For those of you who don’t know what this show is all about I suggest going to see it or the less expensive route – look it up on youtube.com.  For the entire show my jaw was literally either dropped or plastered with a giant smile of enjoyment and awe.  The stunning mixture of creative set design, choreography, and music left me mesmerized.  The brilliant display of agility and acrobatic ability, as well as balance, pose, and grace, shows how much hard work has been put into this production.

It was nice to go and walk around the city for a little while, and of course I had to have a piece of fine New York Style Pizza!!!  It was so good it was like candy to me.

Overall I say this day was a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to see what SCOPE has in store for us next.  I knew UNH was the place for me.

  12. So much to do with so little time

    Hey Guys,
I have been so busy these last 2 weeks, sorry I havent been able to write. I have been working at least 30 hours every week on top of going  to school, I barley have time to catch my breath. So anyway, today was terrible, the weather was horrible. I got up to do community service and as I was driving it started pouring out of no where and it was so crowded there was no where to park so I just came back to school. Then I was gonna start doing homework but I fell asleep on my couch! The weather is really ruining my day. When its raining I get really the whole day just feels wrong. But I need to start working on my project, finish my take home test and do my math homework. On a brighter note, I am happy I didnt have to work today!! I been working so much but on the other hand I need the money =]! Well I just thought I would write a blog since im procrastinating on doing my school work! Anyway, I am going to start my homework now!!!

  13. An exausting weekend and more.

I am EXHAUSTED. Last week was the usual waking up early for classes, and then over the weekend I had to wake up early on Saturday and Sunday for the Explore UNH Day and Open House. Of course now it's back to classes so I still have yet to sleep in. My first class today was cancelled but for some reason, I woke up at 7:30 and then again at 9:30. I think I'm going to head home for the night on Friday so I can relax and sleep as late as I want to on Saturday morning.

I had never worked an Explore UNH Day until Saturday, and it was packed because it was for Forensics. Henry Lee was there and everyone was sooo pumped to meet him. I've seen him on E! a couple of times but other than that I don't know much about him. It was funny to see everyone running up to him asking him to sign things. They told him it was time to put his mic on but he stayed and talked to the families for a couple of minutes. He seemed like a nice guy. Open House the next day was PACKED. I got to stand at the College of Arts and Sciences table and talk to people about music and communication, it was cool. So many people visited UNH this weekend, it was crazy!

So registration is Thursday night (technically Friday morning, at 12:01 A.M.) and I am really hoping I get into all of my classes. I plan on taking Production Fundamentals, Recording Fundamentals, Intercultural Communication, Persuasive Communication, Introduction to Music Theory II, History of Rock and Vocal Performance. Seven classes, my advisors think I'm crazy. The performance class is only once a week for a half-hour, though, so it isn't so bad. The best part is that this will be my first semester taking all classes that deal directly with my majors, I'm really excited for that.

I decided that over winter break I'm going to take a Management and Organization class, which is required for Music Industry. The sooner I can get some classes out of the way, the better...I'm determined to graduate in May 2011! I'm also probably going to work in the admissions office a few days a week, so if you come for a tour while UNH is on its winter break, I will probably be giving it.

Tonight and Thursday afternoon I'm going to be online for a college fair. If you want to sign on, the website is CollegeWeekLive.Com .

I have to go do some work for Media Writing and take a nap before Physics Lab. Hopefully I'm not going to fall asleep while they're talking Physics, it will be hard.

P.S. Britney Spears' new album is available to pre-order on iTunes today, and you get a limited time track! I will probably buy a physical copy along with the iTunes version...lots of support!

  14. Fire trip to Boston

    Hey Everyone!

What’s going on? It was a busy weekend here. Saturday the Fire Science Club took a bus trip up to the Boston Fire Department. It was wicked cool. We started the day off at the Boston Fire Museum. There we picked up our tour guide and drove around Boston stopping at different firehouses around the city. The best stop had to have been Engine 33, Ladder 15. They are located on Boylston Street in the Back Bay section of the city. They are actually located a short distance away from Fenway Park. The guys from Engine 33 and Ladder 15 were very nice to us, and allowed a few of us to play with the ladder.

Sunday was the our last open house for this semester. We packed the gymnasium! The amount of families that were there was crazy! Just to let everyone know, we will be doing an online college fair this Wednesday and Thursday.  Go to CollegeWeekLive for more information!

There is also a BIG game this week. Last week, the NFL began having Thursday night games this season. This Thursday, the New England Patriots take on the New York Jets. It is a battle for first place in the AFC East. The Pats beat the Jets back in Week 2, 19-10. If you don’t remember it was Matt Cassel’s first start after Tom Brady got injured in the season opener.  Since then, the Pats have gone 6-3 and Matt Cassel has gained more confidence and more understanding of the offense every week. It should be a good game, and I can’t wait for it. Too bad a lot of people won’t have a chance to able to watch it, because it is on NFL Network.

I have a presentation due on Friday, so I am going to be working on that all week. It’s gonna be a crazy week. I have a lot to do before Thanksgiving which is coming up quickly and that only means one thing…a home cooked meal with awesome leftovers. 17 days until Thanksgiving, 45 days until Christmas…the countdown begins!

Well until next time, take it easy!

  15. My First Weekend Away

When you are away from your family you truly realize how much talking on the phone doesn’t do this withdrawal justice. I was raised very family oriented, and even though I have become accustom to being away at college, I still miss seeing everyone. Lucky for me this weekend I was able to get my fix. Because of my busy schedule and my position as a Resident Assistant I had not left Boston Post Road since August, and this weekend my cousin Ashley got married so it was the perfect opportunity to have all of my loved ones in one location all at one time. I have family spanning all along the East Coast and all the way out to Phoenix, Arizona, and nearly all of them congregated at Kings Point on Long Island, NY. For the last 24 hours I have had nothing but a smile on my face as more and more friendly faces poured into the Melville Marriott.

The ceremony took place at the Merchant Marine Base, and even though it was raining we didn’t let that stop us from doing anything that we would have been doing if it were Sunny and 60°. The night was filled with laughter, tears, dancing, and most importantly friendship and love. RA’s can have a tough role at times and sometimes it is nice to just get away for a bit, kick back, and relax with the ones you love. So make sure when you see your RA you tell them how much you appreciate them.

Well I am exhausted, a long day of preparation and a night of merriment will wear anyone out. The worst part is that in enjoying this time with my family so much I have not done a single ounce of homework, so Sunday night should be an interesting night lol. Thus to wind things up; I know you may get fed up with your family sometimes, but always remember that they are the most important aspect of your life and you need to make sure you show them how much you care.

I would be a stupid boy not to realize how great I honestly have it with my loving parents and caring family and friends. Thank You So Much Guys…

  16. Election results all over campus

I cannot believe the election finally happened! I'm actually pretty unhappy with the results, but I can't say that I'm surprised. I voted for McCain on Tuesday morning but I knew that the election would probably go in favor of Obama because of the Bush Administration screw-ups. I'm just hoping now that my Republican Party can come to terms with the current events and come back strong later on. Still, it's exciting to live through history, and I have been trying to get over my bitter feelings toward Obama and, at the very least, support some of his ideas. Everyone should start paying attention, but not only watching/reading the news...talk to people! You can't believe everything that the liberal media has to say.

Campus was crazy for a little while after it was declared that Obama won. I was pretty upset and shut my window but I could still hear the beeping outside and what I think was a stampede above my room. The little Facebook wars were a little out of a control, too. I have to admit, I changed my status a couple of times along with basically everyone else on the network. It was entertaining, to say the least.

Now I'm just gearing up for the next week, which I am so excited for! Tomorrow I meet with a music advisor to go over my schedule for next semester (which I still have yet to finalize, of course) and then I have the phone interview with Andrew McMahon! It hasn't hit me yet that I'll be talking to him on the phone. Anyway, I'm spending this weekend working...Saturday is one of the enhanced visits and Sunday is the final open house of the semester! We hope to see a lot of you there...I might not look too excited because we have to wake up so early for open houses - before 10 is early for me and most other college students, especially on weekends. However, it's cool to see so many people show up.

Next Wednesday I have a meeting with my communication advisor to go over my schedule, and Thursday night we get to register. I really hope I can get all of the classes that I want. Thursday night is also Midnight Madness which is when everyone goes to the gym and the basketball team gets presented, and the dance teams do their routines. Other groups perform too, it was a lot of fun last year. There's also a Midnight Breakfast but I won't be making it to that since I have to register.

And of course, the 16th is the Jack's Mannequin show! By then we will be practically done with classes and gearing up for finals. It's so crazy, people keep telling me how much time I have left here, but at the rate that the semesters go by, I feel like graduation is coming fast. But right now, I'm not thinking about that...I'm too excited for Christmas.

  17. And my week goes on ...

This week is alright. Not too much going on but I’ve lost all motivation to do work, so I still don’t want to do anything. I had an organic chemistry test on Friday and a calculus II test on Monday. Organic chem went VERY well… I got it back already and got a 96!!! Woohoo! But calc II was not easy at all. I just blanked on everything and it was nothing like the practice test… soooo I didn’t do very well at all but we’ll see. I get that back in class tonight so hopefully it won’t be terrible.

I’m SOOOOOO excited that Obama won!!! I don’t want to start any political debates on here, but I think its time for a change.

The rest of this week doesn’t really consist of much. I’m doing the online college fair on Thursday and working Open House on Sunday. Maybe I’ll see some of you there!? And I’m spending the rest of my weekend catching up on homework and hanging out with my friends. It should be a productive weekend but we’ll see how motivated I am when the weekend rolls around. Talk to you soon!

  18. Gearing up for my last semester

    Hey Everyone!

How is your day going? I can’t believe how fast this semester is flying by. I picked up my paperwork for registering for classes next semester – the LAST time I will have to do that. It is starting to hit me that this is my last year here at UNH. It has been a crazy four years here and there has been a lot of good memories.

Winter is on its way as well. The sky has been grey all day and it looks like it is going to start snowing any minute now. Halloween was four days ago now and some places have already started getting ready for Christmas! What happened to Thanksgiving? We still have two weeks until then! Anyways…that’s all I got for today. Have a good one.

  19. Trail of Terror

    Hey everyone,
My weekend was a little crazy, sorry for not writing in a few days. Well Friday I was at work from 3:30 until 10 and then when I got out I went to the schools haunted house. It was better the last 2 years but either way I was screaming and was scared! I get scared real easy in the dark. I hope everyone had a happy halloween!!! Then on Saturday morning I did some community service and at about 8:30 p.m. I went to the Trail of Terror!!! My friends and I waited in line for about 3 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then the tour took about another hour.
On the tour I was screaming and ducking and running like I had no sense lol. When the Texas Chain Saw guy came out my friend and I fell on the floor and was just screaming. Clearly if that was real life WE WOULD'VE BEEN DEAD! Then I finally ran past him but i was running by myself and had no clue where I was going lol!  By the time I got back to the room it was going on 2 something in the morning and I fell in my bed and went right to sleep. On Sunday I did some work in the admissions office and then hit the books! School can't just be all fun all the time lol =].  Today is a busy day. I have class from 9:25 until 10:40 and then two classes back to back starting at 12:15 and not ending until 2:55, then I am off to work from 4:30 until about 10. Well now I am going to start getting ready for class and begin my day.  Just a little something to remember: A day without smiling is a day that is wasted!!
OOO I think I like writing "just a little somethin to remember". I may start putting them with every blog
    Later everyone, enjoy ur day!

  20. Back to Reality ...

The ghosts and goblins are all gone, and it is time to get back to work.  I know for me this week won’t go by fast enough.  It is not that I have a lot of work to do or anything like that, but I’m so excited to see my whole family this weekend – like cousins and all!  I have gotten a head start on all of my homework so that I would have very little to do towards the end of the week and would be able to enjoy the weekend.  All I have to do is just finish typing up my Physics and Organic Chemistry Lab Reports, two presentations to finalize, and a couple homework problems to do (yeah I know not too much *sarcasm*).  But that is pretty much a typical week load of homework for me, minus the presentations.

This weekend my oldest cousin Ashley is getting married in Long Island, NY, and this side of the family is the one I have spent the most time with and the side that I am closest with.  At times we almost act more like siblings than cousins.  Thus I’m getting really anxious to see them; I haven’t been home since August.  So Long Island isn’t quite home but home will be coming to Long Island.  This will be a nice weekend off-campus, as long as my little sister doesn’t become a pain in my butt.  We have a very Love/Hate relationship =) lol.

Well readers, wish me luck on this crazy week.  I’ll be back with the full scoop on how my weekend adventure played out.

  21. You can call me Nellye

My name is Chenellia but everyone calls me Nellye so from now on I will be using Nellye in my blogs!!! So this is my first blog, I’m actually excited because you guys can get a glimpse into what college life is through my eyes!

So Halloween just passed and S.C.O.P.E, one of the student organizations on campus put on great events (like a haunted house that scared the pants off of me). Next weekend I will be going to a regional conference for one of my clubs NSBE (National Society Of Black Engineers) there will be more information on what that is, how it went and pictures (yes actual pictures) when I come back from that! So for now I bid you all farewell!!! See you next week!

  22. A Crazy Month or So ...

Wow—it’s been forever since I’ve blogged! I have just been so crazy busy lately with work, midterms, regular class work, presentations, my family moving, a final and everything else, this is the first I’ve been able to sit down for a month!  I had midterms in most of my classes, and I had a final in my accelerated class, which was not fun to say the least.  This weekend is a welcome respite from all the insanity of the past few weeks and I’m looking forward to some serious lazy time.

Friday was Halloween and seeing all the different costumes was awesome on both staff and students.  Since it was Paranormal Awareness week, PIRO, our paranormal club put on a lot of events for the students on campus. Last night was a costume ball, a few nights ago PIRO showed Sweeney Todd, and there was a Harvest Party in the Quad on Wednesday. My favorite event was when John Zaffis came to campus and spoke about his research and investigation into the paranormal field. He’s good friends with Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson who run TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), which is what the SciFi show “Ghost Hunters” is about. “Ghost Hunters” is my ABSOLUTE favorite show, and I have every season out. So to have someone who appears on the show, and who is so highly respected in the field come on campus was amazing—I’m really glad PIRO was able to get him to come on campus. He even took the members of PIRO on an investigation throughout campus to the buildings said to be haunted.

My bedroom window faces construction, and man, are they hauling butt on this new residence hall.  I know I’ve probably said this five times before, but I cannot wait until the building is finished for my senior year! It’s going to be so nice inside, and the single bedrooms will definitely be a plus.

Election day is coming up in a few days, and it’s awesome to see so many people getting involved on campus. A lot of the students are submitting absentee ballots, and debates are popping up in a lot of my classes. Young people are a key demographic in this election, and the school is doing things like registering voters and offering rides to the polls this year.

Alright, gotta go get ready to give a tour. See ya!

  23. A Fire Trip to Providence

    Hey Everyone!

Sorry it has been awhile since my last blog but I have been very busy! This past week myself and a few other students from the Fire Science Club went to a conference in Providence, Rhode Island. The Center for Campus Fire Safety hosted its annual forum from Tuesday October 28 to October 30. It was a place for industry professionals and campus fire safety coordinators and administrators to come together to talk about solutions to our country’s campus fire safety problems. It was a great experience and I am very pleased that I got to attend. It was a great way to network with professionals in the industry I would like to be a part of once I graduate. I would like to thank the Executive Director of the Center for Campus Fire Safety, Amy Hamel, for letting myself and the other members from the Fire Science Club travel to Providence and help out with everything and meet everyone. If you would like to know more about the Center for Campus Fire Safety and what you can do help fix this problem you can visit their website here: http://www.campusfiresafety.org/index.html.

It was disappointing to return to campus because I had so much fun in Providence. But I’m back in New Haven, and it’s Halloween! It was great to see all the different costumes on campus. Well it’s getting late and I need to go get my costume on. Happy Halloween everyone!

  24. Happy Halloween

It really doesn’t feel like Halloween, unless of course you go into the café in Bartels. They have decked it out for the holiday, and they’re doing contests and whatnot. One of the employees was dressed up as a song and if you guessed it you won candy; other people in the kitchen had masks on and some students are in costume, too. I saw one kid yesterday dressed as the Joker (probably half of the people you’ll see tonight will be that).

Yesterday I scored a phone interview with Andrew McMahon for a future issue of PULP. I can’t believe it, he is basically my idol. We might be doing something with them when they come to Toad’s Place, too (11/16!). It’s so exciting, I’m not sure how I’m going to stay composed on the phone and, hopefully, in person.

It’s almost that time of the year to pick our classes for next semester…I can’t believe how the fall has flown by. I picked up my worksheets that tell me where I’ve received credit, and where I still need it. I think next semester is going to consist of the following: Intercultural Communications, Production Fundamentals, Recording Fundamentals, Music Theory II, and History of Rock. I might try and pick up another communication class, and the required performance credit because that class itself doesn’t require a lot of time, and I’ll have no problem with outside practice.  I still have to finalize a schedule, though, and meet with my advisors next week.

It’s a tough thing to be a double major! I am obviously behind in both because I’m trying to take some classes for each major. I took some online courses over the summer, and next summer I plan to at LEAST take accounting (you need two basic accounting classes for Music Industry). My mom has a degree in accounting and math is not my subject, so I’m putting it off until I can be home where she can easily help me.

Still, I am so excited to be working in these fields. I have even been thinking of something else I want to do in addition to these majors…it would require a lot more school, though, so I’m torn. I’ll be sure to let you know when I decide – I don’t want to say anything just yet!

  25. Global Adventure VS. Academics???

Today I was faced with quite a conundrum about how I going to spend my summer break.  My original plan was to Study Abroad in Australia; since I am a Forensics Major it is hard to take time out of the year to do this so the summer seemed like a perfect get-a-way.  If I was to go, I would have been studying at Bond University on the East Gold Coast – which if you didn’t know that is where the majority of the surfing scenes in movies are shot there.  So as an enthusiastic scuba diving, this would have been like my haven…minus the box jellyfish that can kill you in less than 10 minutes =P.  So that was the original plan, but now that I am thinking about the academically wise alternative and I feel that doing a research project could be fun as well.  Like I am planning on double majoring in Chemistry, so doing this laboratory experience could be beneficial for my education.  So you see that this is a difficult dilemma I am faced with…do I pursue this opportunity to work doing a research project, or cross the globe and spend a part of my summer in Australia???

I think in the end I’m going to pursue doing the research project, and then I’ll have to make sure I take the trip to Australia on my own time and that way I can take full advantage of my time there and not worry about doing school work while I’m laying out on the beach.  You know I would hate to get sand in my textbook.  No worries I will keep you all posted when I make my final decision.

    Which would you pick???

  26. My Week

I have been so busy these last few days!!! I went home on Thursday  because I had to get my wisdom teeth pulled friday morning  and it was my mom's birthday on Sunday. My wisdom teeth pulling went so well, my face didnt swell and it was not that much bleeding. I was surprised because the first time I got it done it was a disaster.

Oh yea, my mom's b-day was great and fun, I missed home. I finally got my business math midterm back, I got a 95!!! I don't know how I did it but Im glad I made that happen!! I am so excited about that grade. Anyway, today was a semi busy day, just school and work! The story of my life!!!

On a more exciting note, the NAACP at UNH is finally going to be recognized as a chapter at UNH and nationally!!! woohoo!!! We have 25 official members. Also we have a big AIDS awareness event on Nov. 10 so I am looking forward to attending that especially since J.L. King is going to be speaking. Well I am about to go hit the books and watch a little T.V.

    Later days!!

  27. Hi, I'm Tyler.

What a heck of a week it has been and it is only Tuesday.  As a Resident Assistant there are certain times a month where the job can get pretty crazy and you need to be prepared to perform an intense balancing act between your job, classes, homework, clubs, social time, and…oh yeah sleep.  It is kind of funny how my friends can always tell when it has been a crazy week because my room is a total mess with papers, textbooks, and clothes thrown about, but when Friday comes around it all gets straightened up for the week to come.  This is one of the many pleasures of having no classes on Fridays.

Well now that I have jumped the gun, and since this is my first blog I’ll tell you a little bit about myself and why I am here doing this.  To begin look at the top of the page (lol); my name, major etc. That is all the boring stuff, if you were to follow me around on a good day you would see how there isn’t enough space there to properly elaborate what happens here at UNH on a daily basis.  As a Forensic Science major, we are faced with a lot of science (which means a lot of time spent in labs) and through my own experimentation I have found that the average college student can only spend 3 hours in a lab before they are ready to scream.  Although at the end of the day when I collapse into my futon I smile because this is what I love to study, and I know it is only a matter of time until I get to all the fun stuff.

Besides being a student, I am also very active on campus with many other organizations.  Some of these being the Class of 2011 Class President, Committee Head for SCOPE, LEAD, RA in New Hall, Charger Ambassador, and various other small committees.  I encourage that when you come here to UNH as an undergrad to get involved ASAP but be sure not to stretch yourself too thin.  UNH has so much to offer, and to truly enjoy your college experience you need to submerse yourself in your college.

Well that is all for this week. Please check me out on Facebook , I love meeting new people!!! And if you have the time, take a look at my Podcast Channel on iTunesU (click on the Class of 2011).

  28. Making Smiles

I’m soooooooo sorry it has been so long since my last post. I have been so busy with classes, work, a semi-social life, going away for weekends, and being sick. Classes are crazy busy and professors are not letting up on the work load. I’m doing decent in all my classes though so I guess I’m keeping up for the most part.

This past weekend my roommate and I went up to Bryant University to do some community service activities with the DECA Chapter up there and it was so much fun! We painted pumpkins with the elderly and did a walk for JDRF. We had a lot of fun and caused quite a few smiles which always makes you feel good about yourself.

As for being sick, I have been sick for a month now and it’s terrible. I have been almost continuously sick since some time in September. I have a few days where I feel good, but then I sink right back into feeling sick again. I hate being sick but I always am. I take my multi-vitamin and it still doesn’t help. I’ve come to the conclusion that my immune system just hates me!

Well I have a physics lab report to write up and some organic chemistry homework to do so I’m going to get to that and maybe go to dinner if I can eat anything. We’ll see. I’ll let you know how I’m feeling soon. Hopefully it will be better than today.

  29. I'm Baaaack!

Sorry I’ve been M.I.A.; unfortunately my computer crashed last week and so I haven’t had much internet access. The days without my laptop were the longest of my life, I’m so glad to have it back.

It’s been a slow couple of weeks, filled with class, work and homework…nothing new. I’m trying to plan a trip for winter break, and getting really excited for all of the upcoming holidays. Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year, and the stores in all of the malls have already started to decorate. It isn’t even Halloween yet but I love seeing the Christmas trees.

The newest issue of Pulp came out last week. I wrote an article on Britney Spears and her possible comeback (which is going so well, if you haven’t noticed). Go check that out, along with a lot of other great articles, at http://pulp.chargerbulletin.com/.

I just applied for an internship, and now I’m about to go search for a Halloween costume. I really want to be a fairy, but I have yet to find any fairy costumes that aren’t tacky. Up the road from UNH are three or four seasonal Halloween stores and a couple other places with costumes, so hopefully I can find what I’m looking for. I can’t wait for Friday!

Hope everyone’s college search is going well…I know that by this time in my senior year, I had applied to all of my schools – except UNH. I had narrowed down my choices to Southern Connecticut and Quinnipiac, but neither had the music program I was looking for. Someone told me in February about UNH and so I applied then, and was accepted within two weeks. I don’t think I had even seen the school when I applied. Funny how things work out.

However, I wouldn’t suggest applying to UNH as late as I did; based on the amount of freshmen that came in this year, I would be surprised if there was much room left by February. Also, I absolutely hated not knowing where I was going when all of my other friends had decided. So get all of your applications in now, the more popular we become, the harder it will be to get in. Seeing as my class is about 600 kids, and the freshman class this year is 1400…we are clearly getting more popular.

  30. DJ Battle at the German Club

Today starts my weekend. It will be full of hitting the books because of these midterms. I can't wait for midterms to be over!!!!!! They can be so stressful at times. Calc is the most STRESSFUL subject in the world!!!  Other than that school is all right.
I am on the e- board for the NAACP so I can't really do too much studying today because today is our first, hopefuly annual,  DJ battle. We have been planning this event for months and tonight it is going to finally happen. We are all excited to see who wins =]. The DJ's have been talking about who is the best for a while and tonight everyone is going to see. I am about to go help set up and clean up the German Club. Hope our event is succesful. Well like i said, I got to get out of here. I'll talk to you soon!
