  1. This is madness. . . this is SPARTA! Or, just MEISA’s Battle of the Bands. . .

So, last night was MEISA’s Battle of the Bands! I didn’t really get a chance to enjoy it, because I was pretty much running the show, since the President and Vice President were each in bands participating for the title. But overall, the show was awesome!

Each year, we open up the battle to any student on campus who has a band. They each submit demos, and MEISA has a listening party to determine which 8 bands will make it into the competition. Each band that is selected gets a 25 minute set, with a 5 minute set change, and they have to perform a cover song, by an artist chosen by the members of MEISA. Two years ago, they had to cover Michael Jackson, last year it was the Beatles, and this year it was. . . .

    BRITNEY SPEARS?

Yes, each band was required to cover a Britney Spears song, though, not everyone felt it was necessary. The covers were pretty good. Some of the covers that were performed were You Drive Me Crazy, If You Seek Amy, Sometimes, and Toxic. So much fun! People moshed to Britney! That alone was worth all of the stress I went through for this show. :o)

    The winners were:

1st Place: Shut Up and Deal

    2nd Place: Goodman Brown

    3rd Place: She Eats Planets

    Audience Choice: 1974

Each winning band received an American Express Gift Card, for various amounts. And Audience choice received a $250 donation to a charity of their choice. They wanted to Save the Pandas, so they are donating to the Word Wildlife Fund. Rockers have a heart too!

  2. Here We Go.

It's Tuesday and it is a loong day.

8am Criminal Law class. We went over all the statutes involved with the cases we all chose to do for our paper. All professor Lawlor did was basically go online and he either clarified or helped any students with looking up a statute. Well with that being done all class, I am surprised how easy it was to get someone charged with the crime of threatening another person and molestation.

9:25am Composition class. With poetry and short stories already done, it was time for plays, and we started on a famous Greek tragedy 'Antigone'. It's such a classic and it is very sad for those of you who haven't read it. It's basically 'King is too arrogant and stubborn and that eventually causes basically the death of his entire family', simple, but tragic. Coming up is 'Oleanna', supposedly classic, tragic, but I never read it before.

10:50am Biology. We finished up the digestive system and we all got lucky as the professor decided to move our exam up a week. Yay! Other than that, I am still surprised at how much my professor knows about the subject. He has the explanation skill of a doctor and the precision of a scientist in everything he talks about. Today, I found out what chemically makes heartburn and what really makes you hungry and full o.0

After my biology class, I had a nice break (No FSCC this week) and I made an attempt to check my UNH email which failed. The UNH email system was having problems with its servers and it went out for a week. It kinda stinks because it is what everyone here relies on while communicating. But as bad as it may seem, it teaches us a nice lesson. Along with your college email address, make sure you have at least 1 alternate email address, so you aren't screwed. I didn't like the UNH email downtime, but I had my Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, MSN, AIM, Hotsheet and Comcast emails. I will never run out of emails lol.

Chemistry was next. I walked into Buckman Hall through the other end for the first time ever and I was surprised at all the other labs, offices and classes there. Man now I am like jealous of all the engineering and chemistry students. But we Forensic Science people will get the Henry Lee School Building in a year or two, so I won't feel left out. So in Chemistry we had our typical lecture and power points and we also were told of an upcoming exam, on the same day as my Bio exam as it turns out...

Chem Lab ends my day of classes on a positive note. Our experiment involved enthalpy which is like the heat generated by chemicals and we got to use hydrochloric acid and ammonia along with a really cool portable temperature graphing device. I don't know the name, but its a cool calculator thing that will graph temperature and pH real time and other cool stuff. Because our lab only involved mixing chemicals and letting the grapher device do all the other work, it was extremely short and we got out in half an hour.

After my nice Chemistry lab, I did some homework and grabbed Sandellas for dinner. It turned out to be a bad choice because I narrowly forgot that the Spring Concert release party was today and when I got there, I found the food there to be extremely delicious, so much to the point of regret of Sandellas. But good news at least...

    Our Spring Concert Bands are...
THIRD EYE BLIND, TRAPT, BLUE JUPITER and TREY SONGZ!
Oh my, I can't wait until May. TEB and Trapt are pretty good and serious bands that have hits on charts before and they go on tours. Maybe I will get to meet them! As for Trey Songz, I don't know him, but for Blue Jupiter, apparently they will be the emcees and that they were the acapella group that made/won the newest Oreo jingle or something.

After the concert release party stop, I decided to do my Biology take home quiz assigned last week and my calculus homework before heading to bed. It took a long time, but that's college work.

  3. No E-Mail for You

So this last week our e-mail server was down for maintenance purposes, and I have never seen people so lost.  Technology has begun to completely consume our lives to the point of if we don't have e-mail, facebook, or twitter we feel disconnected with society.  I myself find it quite funny to be honest.  Like as much as it annoyed me to not be able to send out the information I needed, it was humorous to see how solom people became without access to their school e-mail.  I will give them the benefit of the doubt in that our primary contact with our professors are their university e-mails.  Can you imagine back in the day before e-mail and texting?!?!?!

Technology has been both a blessing and a curse, I feel we must begin to be careful with how much of our lives we entrust to machines.  What will happen to us when the day that everything does crash?  Revolution...or Re-Evolution?

I don't know I guess I am just glad to have everything back up and running , and able to conduct business again. =)

  4. Remembering a Friend

    Hi everyone,

Sorry I've been gone for a little while, I have been having some technical difficulties with my email!!! Well enough about that!! I hope everyone had a good holiday, I sure did. Once again I was home!! I feel like I have been home quite a bit this semester. Well let me tell you about it.

I left on Thursday. Thursday was the 3 year anniversary since one of my best friends died, Chanee. My best friends and I went to her grave and hung out there for a little while. We weren't sad we made the best of it as if she was there. We took pictures with her plot, told jokes and just reminisced about the old days. That was pretty much how I spent my Thursday. The rest of the break I just hung out with my friends and family. Even if I did nothing over my break being home was fun enough.

I came back to school Sunday night, well Monday morning because I got back at like 12 a.m. Then of course Monday I was back in class. I pulled an all nighter Monday night. I had a 5 page paper due and a take home test due on Tuesday =]. I had to do what I had to do since I didn't pick up one book while I was home for break. Tuesday I went to class handed in all my assignments and then tutored my student John. Now, today I have classes all day until 3. Then I think I am going to go to the gym and then start and finish another 5 page paper.

Well thats about it for now. I am glad my email is up and running again so you will hear back from me real soon.

    Later guys!

  5. Long Time, No Blog

Sorry about that, but I’ve been extremely busy. Last Saturday, I participated in the Accepted Student Day on campus. I sat on a student panel and answered some questions about the music department and the University in general. That was a lot of fun! I love doing those types of things.

On Sunday night, I had my first National MEISA meeting. The executive board met on google chat and talked about all of the things we want to get done this year –and let me tell you, we have a LOT of good stuff planned. So definitely try to get involved in MEISA when you get to UNH.  The national conference will be in Miami next year, that should be reason enough to join! :o)

On Monday, I met with the director of student activities to ask about starting a record label on campus. He gave me some really helpful information, and if all goes according to plan, we should have a semi-functional record label next year!! So that’s another thing to keep a look out for.

That’s pretty much all I have for you right now. And once the email is up and running (it’s been down for the past few days) I will send this out to get posted!

Stay sweet, and keep on rockin’!

  6. Back with a shattered elbow

What has been going on? It has been a very long time since I have written a blog. Basically, I shattered my elbow a week and a half before spring break. I was playing hockey in the rec center on campus, and I was hit, fell, landed on my elbow just right and boom, I shattered it. I spent 5 days in the hospital, and then I had a little extended spring break. I am just getting back into the swing of things again, so sorry again for taking so long on writing the blog. Things have been winding down here on campus. There are 38 days until graduation. So I have to get four papers done before then. The NFL released the schedules for this season on Tuesday night. The Patriots open the season at home on Monday Night Football against Terrell Owens and the Buffalo Bills (why they picked him up I don’t know). I’ll talk more about the Patriots later. Rescue Me starring Denis Leary is back on FX, Tuesday nights at 10. It is an awesome show, and Denis has a new book out called Why We Suck, and it is about everything that is wrong in America. It is hysterical how he pokes fun at different things that are going on in today’s world. I suggest you go out and buy it. Well, that’s all I have for today. I’ll try to start blogging on more consistent basis from now on, but I start Physical Therapy on my elbow tomorrow…we’ll see how that goes. Have good one!

  7. Spring Concert

The Student Committee Of Programming Events (SCOPE) announced the Spring Concert Lineup:  Blue Jupiter (who?), Trey Songz (uhhh...he spelt his name wrong), Trapt (one-hit wonder), and Third Eye Blind (CHA-CHING!)  I'm not saying they're one of my favorite bands, but I have a few Third Eye Blind albums on my Ipod.  Trapt is popular simply because of Headstrong, and that was big back in about 8th grade!  There are a few kids that are excited for Trapt, but they know they're in the minority.

Let me take a time out to look up Blue Jupiter and Trey Songz...ok i'm back.  Blue Jupiter will be the Emcee for the concert, and they're an acapella group.  Alright thats fine, even though their MySpace account has demos up, and are even looking for a male singer to join the group (hmmm, I mean it is a tough job market).  Trey Songz is the hip-hop act, and from the looks of his songs I think he is our generation's BabyFace.  Song titles include   "I need a girl", "Missin You", "In Ya Phone", "Last Time", and "Can't Help But Wait"..  I'm sure I'll need some fresh air during the concert.

Trapt, sure they have a few songs, and I'm sure I'll give in and sing along to a few of them.  Third Eye Blind could be pretty good.  It's been a while since they've been popular, but they've always been somewhat in the limelight...I guess you could say they'll NEVER LET YOU GO!  Oh that was so tempting!
Oh well; it looks like it could be a somewhat decent concert to graduate to.  Until next time..."

  8. Home For Easter!!!!

Wow! This week flew by! I Aced my Accounting test :-) I think I Aced my Arabic quiz too! :-)  We had our introductory dinner to the RA staff last night! It felt so great to receive my name tag and finally feel like part of the staff! I am very excited to be working with everyone next year, I am also excited that I have a full kitchen in my apartment so I can cook myself dinner whenever I want!!!

Everyone is leaving to go home for the weekend. Sunday is Easter so my Uncle is coming down pretty soon to pick me up. We are going up to his house. It will be very exciting seeing my family. It has been a while since I have seen them!

Easter in Newburyport was very interesting..Let’s see..We set off the fire alarms about a million times from having the fire places used, and also by cooking up a storm in the kitchen. It was great though!

Now back to school and I will let you know how my week is going, once it starts getting good!

  9. Back to a Busy Week

We had a nice 3 day weekend, but now it is back to work. There will be no breaks and holidays until we get out around May 20th. Anything I haven’t done well on the first half of the semester will be redeemed this last half. It is a busy week ahead for me.

My Monday started out a typical ‘Josh Low day’. I had Calculus first and then I had my multiple clubs and activities. USGA had a big meeting today, going past their usual 4pm adjournment and ending the meeting around 5pm. Most of the clubs are preparing their ‘event of the year’ to end this year with a bang. SCOPE will hold a Rock & Roll Week this week with many activities from a trip to Steven Lynch to an Elvis impersonator to the announcement of who will be playing for Spring Weekend.

Now on the topic of Spring Weekend; rumors are flying all over the place that Taylor Swift, Third Eye Blind and/or Trapt are playing. The problem is that all of them are just rumors. The official release party and celebration is Tuesday this week. But knowing the past concerts from Lifehouse to Jumpsuit Apparatus to Black Eyed Peas, UNH is going to get a great band/artist.

Along with Spring Weekend, SCOPE is planning an all day trip coming up to Six Flags Great Adventure. SFGA is an amazing park and being a Jersey native, it IS the place to go in the summer. If you live either in New England or the Mid-Atlantic regions of the USA and you have never went, you are missing out my friend.

Along with SCOPE, the ISA is ready to hold their International Festival on Saturday. Representatives from many countries have lined up to get in on that and it will be a blast. Something great I found out is that they will have a Kung Fu Academy from Orange perform the Chinese Lion Dance during the festival. I can’t wait!

Even Paintball club is planning something big. Preparations are being made to have us go to a massive skirmish with over 500 people attending. I haven’t gone paintballing in a while and this may be the wake up call I need. Nothing beats being in a massive field where 100 people are all out to shoot you.

Along with the clubs of Monday, PIRO is holding their annual investigation of Maxcy Hall soon. It will be my first official investigation, I can’t wait.

Lastly, with all these great events coming up, I will also have to prepare for next year this week. Believe it or not, class registration and room selection is a day from another this week. I hope I get all my classes next year and the room I’ve always wanted.

A lot of stuff going on and a lot of work to do; I will post again soon!

  10. Home for Easter Break

College is the best years of your life, but nothing beats going home to Mom's cooking.  The friends I have made here have made me learn that location may not seem like it has a factor about where you'll attend school, but once you get into the routine of the college life, it hits you like a ton of bricks.
I live about an hour north of UNH, and it is the perfect distance; I'm far enough away from home to live on campus and justify not being a commuter, but yet I'm close enough that I can go home for a weekend if I want to see the family or just take a break from school.

Whenever Easter rolls around in college, it's usually the crunch time to start getting all your final projects together.  In my case, it's time to see what life will hold for me beginning May 24th, the day after graduation.  You try not to think about it, but it's inevitable.  For now, I'm going to enjoy being home on a bed that's not passed down from one college student to another, and catch up with old friends.  Have a Happy Easter

  11. Perks of the UNH Honors Program

The UNH Honors Program has some great perks, including getting to register for classes early. I got into all of my classes for Fall 2009 last night, and I'm very excited about next semester. For the honors program, I am going to take Genders, Drugs, and Violence in the 20th Centure: A Perspective from Psychology and the Arts. It sounds crazy, doesn't it? It's definitely going to be interesting.

My other classes are Fundamentals of Mass Communication, Television Production I, Communication and the Law, News Writing and Reporting, and the music industry class, Legal Issues, Copyrights and Contracts. There is not one class that I'm not looking forward to. It's going to be hard work taking six classes again, but I love to be busy.

Now that Easter weekend is over, we're in for the home stretch. A month from now we'll be taking our finals. I can't wait to get my grades back and see how I did. Whenever a semester ends, I obsessively check my grades until I have all of them.

May 1st is coming up, seniors, make sure you send in your deposits to ensure your spot at UNH!

  12. USGA and Chargervoice.com

If you are a student or applying to be a student at University of New Haven, you probably care for the development of this University. You would be interested in being acquainted with the places the money is used, the causes it is used for and how much money do we actually have???.  Undergraduate Student Government Association (USGA) is one huge answer to the barrage of questions raised by the curious students of UNH. USGA makes sure that all the funds are used for the benefit of the students at UNH; it impedes the misuse of the funds and keeps track of the places the funds are used. USGA meets every week, unless there is a holiday on the day of the week they are supposed to meet, they are pretty regular. They are as regular as exams and midterms are regular in a student’s life.

USGA has its own website called as Chargervoice.com, the moment a student opens up the website, the first question that pops up is ‘What can the Student Government do for you??’. This creates a homely feeling for the UNH students and exonerates them to think and ask any questions they have regarding the school in general or the way USGA works. This question is followed by another question ‘Want something changed on Campus?’ It asks change seeking students to fill the concern form and assures them that USGA would make every effort to find answers to any intricate change seeking questions by the students. Chargervoice.com also helps the students to find the times of the various USGA executive boards members, in order for the students to meet them one on one for more personalized questions and answers.

Ohhhh wow now that I said that, I remembered that I haven’t told you guys about the various USGA positions. USGA has a President, Vice-President, Executive Assistant, Treasurer and Sergeant At Arms. It also has 20 senators that represent the various student bodies in general. USGA has many committees that helps out in various activities on campus and make sure issues on campus like residential issues, food, Commuter issues, embracing differences, special events, health and safety etc are taken care of and resolved.

All in all USGA is a momentous part of the campus. USGA to UNH is what a heartbeat is to a heart.  Without any offence to any heart patients out there. Lol

  13. What a week!!

It was certainly nice to be able to sleep in a bit this week, but it was still pretty crazy! I thought this semester would be easy, but there is so much to get done before graduation. My #1 priority for this weekend is to get my Internship journal done. I’m not sure about all majors, but a lot of the majors at UNH require an internship for graduation. It’s part of the whole experiential education thing. It’s really great though. It’s an awesome way to develop networks within your major, and it’s a great way to find out what you really like.

I did my internship last summer at the state crime lab. The lab in CT is awesome! It was really great to go from lab to lab and see first hand what they really do. I always thought I wanted to work in the DNA section, but through my internship I found that I really like the biology section more. At this point though I would probably take any job that a lab offered!!

Speaking of jobs…I wanted to tell you a little bit about my job on campus. I work for something called the Phonathon. Basically, we call up alumni to update their records, let them know about all of the fun stuff going on on campus, and raise money for various things. Last year we raised money for the new Henry C. Lee building that will be breaking ground this summer. This year we’re raising money for scholarships. Most people don’t realize that tuition really only covers about 75% of education expenses (hard to believe, I know!), and the rest of that has to come from somewhere. A lot of it comes from alumni. It’s a really fun job, and it’s a great way to meet more people in your field and ask for their advice. If you’re looking for a convenient job while you’re at UNH (it’s right on campus in Bayer Hall), I would definitely suggest it!

Alright, time to listen to those Tegrity sessions now!

  14. UConn and E-Mail

For anyone that is from Connecticut, you know how popular UConn basketball can be.  It doesn't change at all when on a college campus while in the state.  This past Saturday the UConn men played Michigan State and lost, and the campus was somber and sad.  However, Tuesday night when the UConn women defeated Louisville to finish the season undefeated, and seeing as this game ended with a happy ending, people were out celebrating after the win.  Being a fan of basketball, I'm out celebrating whatever happens in sports!

This past weekend, UNH E-mail was either down or running very slow for most students.  It may seem like a way to complain about the school, but thankfully it was a learning experience for most students.  A good piece of advice for kids looking to get into college is to have a second E-mail address other than their school's E-mail.  I've had an address ever since high school, and I'm quite certain I'll be keeping it past UNH.  It isn't my screen name for my AIM, because having a funny screen name as your E-mail address is not that professional.  I've had an address with just my name, and I use it as another E-mail account when networking.  It not only is an E-mail you can use after college, it's also an E-mail address to be used in case something goes wrong with the school's, as was the case this past weekend.

So no matter where you go, it's best to keep a second E-mail account in case something goes wrong.

    Talk to you later!

  15. Yay ... Monday ...

Once again it's Monday. My weekend was filled with a lot of fun as I went to New York City to see the Bodies exhibit with the Forensic Science and Chemistry Club (FSCC). The exhibit was awesome (I loved the Circulatory System dissection the most) and I would see it again if I got the chance.

So back to Monday. Calculus I was interesting as usual as the professor made it easy to understand (with some humor). I am beginning to find out how much easier Calculus is than Pre-Calculus. It makes absolutely no sense, but I guess the professor and maybe my better understanding of the subject helped.

After Calculus, I began my day of extracurricular activities. I skipped USGA, but decided to use that time instead to vote on the next leaders of USGA. The entire process was done online and  I actually didn't know, until today, that the USGA E-board actually received a stipend equal to 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of their tuition during their term depending on position.

After I exercised my right to vote, I took a nap and proceeded to the ISA meeting. It was now a week away from the International Festival and things are getting more hectic. Paperwork, food licenses, performances, participant responses...

In the end though, I know that we as the ISA, will be able to work through all of it and be able to throw an International Festival to remember.

Afterwards I grabbed some dinner and went over to the SCOPE meeting. We went over the usual committee reports of the week before and the cool events going to happen. In the coming weeks, we're going to have an Elvis impersonator and a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure. I can't wait for that trip, it will be free or 10 bucks and it will be great!

After SCOPE, I decided to skip Anime Club because they were having a Pokémon Diamond/Pearl Tournament and Hall Council because it was canceled. I proceeded to clean up my room for a bit and I went to the gym afterwards. I stopped in the March Madness Finals event at the student center, which was packed, so I left because of no seats and I went back to my dorm for shower and sleep.

  16. My return part 2

These last 2 weeks have been crazy! I have been swampped with school work like crazy!! I have never been so exhausted in my life! If I'm not writing papers and doing homework I am studying for tests. Speaking of tests I got a 90 on my stats midterm and a 95 on my management mid term!!! Staying up all day and night has really paid off. In between the school work I of course have been at work! :: my good looks don't pay my bills lol::

Why is the weather been so bad lately! I am ready to stop wearing a jacket and leave my hair out but I can't because of this weather. Oh yea I'm also ready to get my car washed so we can show stop lol ( not like I have a Benz or anything!!!) I'm glad it's easter weekend. I am going home on Thursday, I am already prepared. I already put gas in my car and took the money out for the tolls so all I have to do is get in my car and go at 1040. Like always I miss home. I think my parents are gonna have a easter basket for me! I am looking forward to it.
Today my agenda is not bad. I have classes until 1040 and then I will be tutoring kids, NAACP meeting and a meeting in the library with my group and in between that I'm going to dye my hair. I can't wait!!

Well its 8 a.m. and I am posting this blog off my blackberry(oh how I love my blackberry) in class so I have to jet!

Later days and sorry for the delay but school can get a little crazy sometimes!!!

  17. Matzo Matzo Yum Yum Yum

Starting this Wednesday at sunset the Jewish holiday of Pesach, or Passover, begins and continues till sunset on the 16th.

In the story of the Exodus, the Bible tells that God inflicted ten plagues upon the Egyptians before Pharaoh would release his Israelite slaves, with the tenth plague being the killing of firstborn sons.  The Israelites were instructed to mark the doorposts of their homes with the blood of a spring lamb and, upon seeing this, the spirit of the Lord passed over these homes, hence the term "Passover". When Pharaoh finally freed the Israelites, it is said that they left in such a hurry that they could not wait for their bread to rise.  In commemoration, and for the duration of Passover, no leavened bread is to be eaten.  Matza (unleavened bread) is the primary symbol of the holiday.  This bread that is flat and unrisen is called Matzo.  Many Jews observe the positive Torah commandment of eating matzo on the first night of Passover at the Passover Seder, as well as the Torah prohibition against eating chametz - certain leavening and fermenting agents, and things made with them, such as breads, certain types of cake and biscuit, and certain fermented beverages.

So for the typical Jewish college student what does this mean?  No cereal, no bagels, no sandwiches, no pizza, no chips, no cakes, no cookies, and no beer.

How does one survive?  Scrambled Eggs, salad, Cream Cheese on Matzo, Matzo Pizza, yogurt, fruit, certain potato chips, and anything else you can find at the super market that is labeled Kosher for Passover.

Last year I was able to survive here at school on this restricted diet, but it will be much easier this year because I will be going home Friday to Sunday to spend the holiday with my family.  I can’t wait to see them again.

  18. My last spring

This past Saturday I had the honor of attending UNH’s Alumni Scholarship Ball for the third time. Typically, as the name suggests, only alumni of the university, some faculty/staff, and the Board of Governors attend. But I’ve managed to attend every year since I was a sophomore. Both this year and my sophomore year I attended with Admissions. My junior year I was the “plus one” for a friend of mine that was invited to attend since she had received an alumni scholarship for the year.

There’s something somewhat surreal about attending the ball. Each year they recognize various alum and their accomplishments since they have graduated. Some of the stories that these men and women have are truly amazing. Many of them have made themselves out of nothing and thank the university time and time again. And then, in return, they gave thousands of dollars back to the university so that students can afford to actually attend. I definitely hope that someday I’ll be in that position.

For now, I think I’ll worry about paying off my loans, though.

Earlier in the weekend, I logged into Jostens, Inc., the company that Student Activities contracts to print our yearbook, and browsed through the virtual copy of the yearbook. I looked through the pages and the hundreds of photos and while I can’t help but breathe a sigh of relief knowing that it’s complete, I still feel a little nostalgic knowing that it’s my final publication with the university.

I woke up early on Friday and took a walk through the university before breakfast and was just amazed with how much the place has changed since I started here in the fall of 2009. New buildings are up, older buildings have been gutted and renovated, departments are moved and shifted. It feels unreal that this time next year, I won’t be making the same walk anymore. This is my last spring.

Take it from me, make the four years last. Because when they’re finally over, you feel like all you did was blink and suddenly you’re four years older and about to graduate college.

  19. My favorite time of year

It's beautiful outside! This is definitely my favorite time of the year at UNH because everyone's spirits are picking up with the nice weather and summer sun is in sight, and there are tons of fun activities coming up. And whenever there's a nice day, everyone heads to the quad on their downtime for barbecues and music. Pretty soon we'll be going to the beach (only 10 minutes away) to lay around.

This past week was a little more relaxed for me so I got the chance to catch up on a lot of my work. This weekend was nice, too. Friday after class, my roommates and I ran some errands on the Boston Post Road and then came back to get ready for a trip to Pepe's Pizza, a famous pizza place in New Haven. Surprisingly, I hadn't been since I was a sophmore in high school. Despite the wait - there's ALWAYS a wait - it was a good time and the pizza was awesome. After that we bounced around campus to various dorms until finally calling it a night at 2 a.m. I haven't stayed up so late in weeks and I'm still exhausted, but it was fun.

Saturday I worked at the Accepted Students Day for a bit and the rest was pretty lazy. I got dinner with my roommates and watched my poor UConn Huskies lose their final four game (but at least the women are clearly going to dominate). After that we just got some ice cream and watched the Office, which I purchased at Target on sale!

This week we have Friday off for Good Friday and I'll be heading home to see my family. Hope everyone enjoys their Cadbury Eggs next Sunday!

  20. The week from ...

Sorry for not posting in a while, but I had the week from hell last week! I feel like everything that could have gone my way didn’t! It’s okay though, I worked my way through it like every other college student. The Beckerman Rec Center was my stress reliever once again… Thank you RecCenter!

I received my RA placement for next year. I will be an RA in Dunham Hall again… woot! It wasn’t my first choice, but I will do great things for Dunham again. It helps that I had a blast this year!

Yeah, I think that’s is it for this post.

  21. One Week Closer to Graduation!!!

One week closer to graduation!! It’s hard to believe that I can get even more excited than I already am. I’m starting to get more nervous though…the job search in this economy is tough. On a good note though, my mom is mailing me an application for my high school. I went to a vocational high school, and the year after I graduated they started a criminal justice shop (I was in machine shop). It’s only a temporary position, but still a good start!!

So that program I was going to tell you about. It’s a program run through the biology department at UNH. We have 8th graders from a local private school come to UNH for about 2 hours every other week for a couple months. We do different types of science experiments with them (biology, chemistry, physics). It’s great for them, because it allows them access to lab instruments they would never get to use otherwise. It’s great for the UNH students involved too. Not only is it a lot of fun, but it looks great on a resume…it shows that you can teach and lead other people even if you’re not looking into becoming a teacher.

Other than that school is pretty much the same as always! I had an exam on Wednesday (it was a tough one!!), and I have to get my thesis done this weekend. My 8 a.m. class is cancelled for Monday and Wednesday though!! My teacher is going to be out of town, but I’m sure he’ll record lessons for us to listen to on Tegrity. Have you been told about Tegrity yet?? It’s an awesome tool that allows teachers to record their lessons and upload them to Blackboard (our online learning community). It’s great for times like this when teachers can’t have class. That way you’re not losing out on the time you’re paying for. It’s also great when you have to miss a class for whatever reason (or over-sleep!!). It’s definitely not a replacement for class though. Sometimes the program messes up and doesn’t record or doesn’t upload, so I don’t take my chances unless I have to! Anyway, I should probably get back to my thesis!!

  22. Fast Week!

Don’t you just love Fridays? Not having Friday classes is definitely a plus! This week flew by wicked fast! Monday was pretty much a blur since I was exhausted from the weekend! The play went extremely well! We got a great turnout; all my friends said they would come and they did! It was great being backstage and hearing my name being yelled from the audience. We had the New Haven Advocate there Opening Night. He wrote us a great review, commending our writers and directors tremendously since they were both students and not professionals. I always hate our last performance though, since that means that our play is over, and no more seeing each other at rehearsals.

My co-actress in the play has become a great friend to me! When you venture out and join new things, you meet so many new people; who become some of your closest friends. Besides the play exhausting me, there were many people visiting the campus over the weekend! Accepted Students Days for the Henry C. Lee Institute for Criminal Justice and Forensic Science Majors were this weekend! Up at 8AM to help with those, but I am not complaining. I love seeing the excited faces of incoming freshmen who will be attending the school in the fall. I also love having families remember me saying, “Hey, you are the one who gave us that great tour many months ago.” It’s very satisfying to hear that you left an impact on these many people.

Well I’m sorry I didn’t have too much going on! I will have more in a few days!

  23. Two Roads

It’s a few days since my last update and I apologize for that. I’ve spent the better amount of my time studying for an exam in biochemistry while squeezing in some time to get my latest batch of résumés and job applications together. I now have two separate résumés prepared: one for forensic science and one for student affairs.

That’s right, I’ve begun applying for jobs in a totally separate field. But being so involved at the university, I almost feel like I’ve been subconsciously creating a résumé that was totally specific to student affairs. I’ve been extremely active in residential life and student activities since I got here and have loved every moment of it. I’ve started applying for professional resident director (RD) positions at a variety of schools. I figure that if I get one of those, I’ll work for a year (hopefully no longer) and then apply to get my Master of Arts degree in Higher Education / Student Affairs. My friend Mindy, also a forensic science major, is doing something similar.

While my current degree isn’t necessarily related, I’ve still learned a lot of things that I can apply to other jobs. I’ve learned how to think outside of the box and to still manage to think objectively and critically. A degree like mine shows evidence of a highly organized mind (that’s all that’s really organized, don’t ever look in my bottom desk drawer) and is something that’s definitely marketable. UNH has helped prepare me for both of these fields and no matter what happens, I’ll still be grateful to the university.

I still have applications out in crime labs. I guess we’ll see what happens. You all will definitely know when I do.

  24. Half the campus is sick

It's really funny that the day after everyone returned from Spring Break, I got sick.  Now, a week-and-a-half after we all got back, I'm all better, but everyone I know has fallen ill.  Dare I say it's my fault?
Anyway, my intramural team is doing quite well, I've got volleyball tonight.  I won again in racquetball the other night.  I've been playing for years now, and it's a good feeling that kids come up to me to have me teach them the game.  People think it's a sport for old people, but it can get quite competitive.  If you play at a quality level, you work out so much that only swimming burns more calories in a given hour of competition.

I've got about seven weeks until diploma time.  This is the time I start busting out applications and demo tapes to local radio and television stations.  For prospective students and young college kids, I cannot stress enough:  In my opinion, networking is much more important than what you learn in the classroom, especially for the broadcasting industry.  It's not what you know; it's who you know.  Knock on wood I get an interview or two, because living off of Ramen Noodles and Bologna doesn't sound like a fun way of post-graduation life!  Talk to ya soon!

  25. I'm a Bookworm

So, before I came back to school from Spring Break, I made the mistake of going to the bookstore and buying books. Now, to any normal person, this wouldn’t be a problem, but for me. . . oh man, bad move.

I’m the definition of a bookworm. Once I find a good book, I stay up to all hours of the night reading, neglect my work, and become chronically late to my classes. Oops. I bought, Watchmen because I wanted to read it before I saw the movie, and I finished it in 3 days. I also bought Dead Until Dark, which is the book that the HBO series True Blood is based on. I absolutely love that book, and searched the internet so I could watch the show. . . each episode is an hour long, and there are 12 of them. Factor in the time for each movie to buffer on the slow UNH internet, and I have wasted a good 16 hours of my life this week. I could have been so much more productive! But I wasn’t. Shame on me!

Let this be a lesson in planning –don’t go to the bookstore just before you return to school from spring break.

The Rave show was officially cancelled, which is a real bummer because I know a lot of people were looking forward to it. Oh well, maybe the performers will be interested in playing next year!

On a good note for MEISA, we finally booked Patent Pending for our end of the year show on May 6th!!!! They had such a good turn out last semester when they played our Halloween show! I’m so excited to have them back again!

  26. An amazing conference!

The conference was absolutely amazing! So many industry professionals were there, and the panels were amazingly informational! Just so you know, the type of speakers they had include: Danny Goldberg (manager of Nirvana) Panos Panay (founder and CEO of sonicbids.com) Jim D’Addario (of D’Addario guitar strings) Sammy Ash (COO of Sam Ash) TIsh Ciravolo (President of Daisy Rock Guitars) and so many more!

The conference was two days long, and on Saturday, I woke up not wanting to do anything at all –but we had to be at the National MEISA meeting by 8AM, where all of the school’s MEISA chapters met with the National Executive Board. The held elections for next year’s  National Executive Board, and I was elected National MEISA Secretary! I am so excited to hold this position, though I am a bit scared that I will be incredibly busy. . .  oh well, I’ll manage!

  27. True Life: I Love being a Quick zone employee

Quick zone is like a diamond with loads of shine; its shine is so powerful that everyone on campus is acquainted with it and wants to get a piece of it. Okay…… keeping the poetic side of me to rest, Quick zone is one store on campus that lives up to its name. It has the fastest service, cleaner atmosphere and cooler….. Yes cooler Managers. For those of you who don’t know about Quick zone, without putting you in any obfuscation, it is a convenience Store on campus. It is a marvelous store because it holds many products under one roof. From big gigantic water bottle cases to the small duct tape, quick Zone houses almost everything. It is one store that will be open for its students even at 2 in the morning. If you come at 1 AM on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday chances are you may find my tired yet wide open eyes and smile, waiting and serving you. I love being an employee there and I’m pretty sure every employee in Quick Zone loves their job as much as I do. It’s like our fifteen minutes of fame, everybody on campus knows us and I like how random people in my class ask me “so do you guys sell Cereals in the Quick Zone”.

Quick Zone had a much more appropriate name before, it was known as C-Store, but like MTV modernized itself and stopped showing Music Videos, we had to modernize ourselves too. One would imagine that in these times of recession people would be wise with spending their money but no not with UNH kids, there is no recession and it is visible with the amount of time and money UNH kids spend in Quick Zone, its awesome and a lot.

So, the next time you come to Quick Zone please keep this blog in mind and remember at Quick zone we love and appreciate our customers (which are mostly UNH students) LOL.

  28. A Very Taskful Thursday

As usual its thursday and I have a nice lineup of classes. I managed to wake up early today.

I grabbed breakfast and then ran off to Criminal Law. Now then, something cool about my professor is that he is a politician, yep, Michael Lawlor. By day he’s a professor, and by night he is a representative for the state house. Anyways, today he handed back the midterms which I got a not so decent grade in. But he assured us that it was no problem as we needed to get used to it beforehand and he told us a story about him in law school failing his first ever final, which was basically the entire grade for the class.

I then ran off to E110. Today we did poems, and we were asked to form groups to practice analyzing poems. My group had some fun chatting it up and after we presented our stuff, we were let go. After English, I went to look for a past professor to help me write a recommendation for the honors program. I was fortunate to find him and he gladly did it. That’s why I like that professor.

After that I went to biology and took a very long, hard and nerve-wracking exam. I hope I did well on it.

Then I ran back to the dorm and I found out from a suitemate that students could go talk to the New Haven Symphony Orchestra people in their house on our campus to get free tickets to their show tonight. So from our suite we gathered 4 people including myself and we headed off to their place. While walking there, we all had thoughts on what they actually did in their house. One of the ideas was that it will turn out that the New Haven Symphony Orchestra is actually a part-time fraternity full of old people that actually throw the craziest parties on campus. Haha, NHO house.

When we arrived there, it wasn’t quite that. It looked more of an office than a house. We talked with the people there and they told us that they didn’t have tickets and after some phone calls and conversation, we were told to just get on the bus at 6:30pm and we would arrive there to pick up our free tickets to see the show. CooL!

I had class shortly after though, so I ran to chemistry and I took their test. Yep, it was a crazy day, a biology and a chemistry test. For all those who have taken them, it is quite tasking.

After the test, I grabbed a quick dinner and me and my suitemates dressed up for the Orchestra tonight.  We then headed to the bus and then we proceeded there.

Now all I have to say about the orchestra was that it was spectacular, it was very amazing.  I have never seen so many people so dressed up and so many old people in one place. However, the music was really good and it is so great that the University sponsors them so we get these free tickets. I bet they’d be pretty high costing normally. They played Rhapsody in Blue where the pianist was so good and they also played West Side Story music.

Well nothing else after the orchestra, unless you count what I missed during the orchestra, which was 2 club meetings. Anyways, I came back to campus after an amazing 3 hour show of music and then ran to Sandellas with the people I was with, then I ate it, and then after going on online for a while, I went to sleep. And ends this taskful day.

  29. Graduation Looming and the Final Four

Well the fact that I'm graduating in less than two months finally hit me.  In about seven weeks from now I'm going to receive my diploma, and say 'hello' to the Real World.  Luckily the one thing that kept my mind off of the harsh realization of leaving school is that the UConn men won!  Ask any Nutmegger that loves sports who their favorite College Basketball team is, and they best answer Huskies.  For the third time in ten years, the UConn men will be going to the final four, and sure enough they are 2-for-2 when making it this far, hopully making it 3-for-3!

Season 4 for intramurals starts this week, and the sports are indoor soccer, softball, Ultimate Frisbee and volleyball.  I also have a racquetball match this week, hopefully keeping my top seed on campus.  I love the Rec Center with the fact their r-ball courts arent warped like up at North Campus.  In the years I've been playing the sport, the biggest factor that can be fixed when playing racquetball is the condition of the court.  Anywho wish me luck; talk to you later!

  30. Approaching the Halfway Point

Hi everyone! I know it's been awhile, but I have been locked in my room ever since I got back from Spring Break doing tons of homework. It's been a really stressful week and, needless to say, I am glad that it's over! I definitely need time to relax and socialize, my roommates have been saying that they've barely seen me all week.

This week we had a really exciting Public Relations Writing class. A friend of my teacher's is running a fundraiser for an HIV/AIDS effort and our class is going to start working on all of the public relations stuff - advertising, press releases, websites, etc. It's really cool that we're getting to do some real world work. I'm anxious to start working on it and help this guy out, his cause is awesome and he's really nice.

I am happy to say that I got A+'s on all of the mid-terms I took. It's annoying being locked in this room all the time but it pays off. I have a feeling that the rest of this semester is going to fly by...we're already choosing our classes for next semester! I have my schedule pretty set, I'm just waiting to hear what the honors classes are so I can pick one. Less than two months from now I will be half-way finished with college. Insane.

Well, I'm off to chill out, and catch up on some things I didn't do this week because of all my work. I hope to see a lot of you here this weekend with the Accepted Students Days , I'll be working Sunday. Have a good weekend!
