So, last night was MEISA’s Battle of the Bands! I didn’t really get a chance to enjoy it, because I was pretty much running the show, since the President and Vice President were each in bands participating for the title. But overall, the show was awesome!
Each year, we open up the battle to any student on campus who has a band. They each submit demos, and MEISA has a listening party to determine which 8 bands will make it into the competition. Each band that is selected gets a 25 minute set, with a 5 minute set change, and they have to perform a cover song, by an artist chosen by the members of MEISA. Two years ago, they had to cover Michael Jackson, last year it was the Beatles, and this year it was. . . .
BRITNEY SPEARS?
Yes, each band was required to cover a Britney Spears song, though, not everyone felt it was necessary. The covers were pretty good. Some of the covers that were performed were You Drive Me Crazy, If You Seek Amy, Sometimes, and Toxic. So much fun! People moshed to Britney! That alone was worth all of the stress I went through for this show. :o)
The winners were:
1st Place: Shut Up and Deal
2nd Place: Goodman Brown
3rd Place: She Eats Planets
Audience Choice: 1974
Each winning band received an American Express Gift Card, for various amounts. And Audience choice received a $250 donation to a charity of their choice. They wanted to Save the Pandas, so they are donating to the Word Wildlife Fund. Rockers have a heart too!
