This past week UNH had its Spring Break and like any other student I was happy to be free from the monotonous schedules and classes. I’m an International student so I thought that I would spend another Spring Break in my dorm room. But, this time I was wrong, I got an email saying that I could go to Las Vegas over the break and get three credits for it. I was excited and confused, is this open to all majors? is it expensive?, is it safe?. My head was filled with barrage of questions and I was in a predicament.
The moment I went and talked to the instructors I was thrilled, not only was this open to all majors but it was taking us to five star hotels for six days in Las Vegas. I signed up for it and what I have experienced this past week; it was like heaven on earth. We went to various five star hotels in Las Vegas like Bellagio, Monte Carlo, Paris, Caesar’s Palace, The Venetian, MGM Mirage, Wynn and Stratosphere. Guess what?? We stayed in Bellagio for the entire six days. It made me feel rich and famous, almost like Hollywood Celebrities minus the makeup and the paparazzi.
My most memorable part of the tour was the visit to Stratosphere. The Stratosphere Las Vegas is a tower, hotel, and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas. The property's signature attraction is the 1,149 ft (350 m) Stratosphere Tower, the tallest free-standing observation tower in the United States. The Stratosphere is the northernmost of the major Strip casinos and the only one actually in the City of Las Vegas. I liked everything about the Stratosphere from the hotel named as Top of the World, where we had dinner, to the different fun filled rides.
The rides were Heart-Pounding Thrills High at the top of Stratosphere. There were three different types of rides Big Shots, X-Scream and Insanity, the ride. Big Shot Shoots passengers straight up 160 feet at 45 mph (over 4 Gs) until they are 1,081 feet above the Strip. X-Scream is a giant teeter-totter that propels you 27 feet over the edge of the Tower, 866 feet above the ground, Insanity, the Ride is a massive mechanical arm extends 64 feet over the edge of the Tower and spins you at a force of 3 Gs for a truly mind-bending experience. I tried all of these rides and was able to satisfy the adventurous side of me.
The class is called as Hotel and Tourism HTM 452 (Casino Experience). I think this class was an example of experiential education and it made me happy, exonerated from schedules and I had a full on BLAST!!!
