Spring Break Musings

I had a dream last night that in order to get my degree, I was required to go back and finish out a semester in a random high school. The dream was vivid enough that I woke up extremely disorientated and wondering if I should be getting up and getting ready even though it’s the middle of Spring Break here at UNH. I pray that I never have to go back to high school. I was pretty popular and semi-involved in high school, but neither negates the fact that I was constantly BORED in high school. Plus, high school seems even worse from this side of graduation. Anyone that claims that high school was the best years of their life, well, I feel bad for ‘em.

I’m often intrigued and amused by the people that go home during Winter and Spring breaks and come back saying that their old friends aren’t who they used to be. Simply because the same could be said about anyone that goes to college. People start studying things that they like and become more focused. People grow up and mature a bit, leave behind some of the petty drama that seemed to seep out of lockers and the lunchroom. Or, maybe, they get worse and get more childish and immature thanks to a fake ID and a few nights on the town a week. I’ve seen both.

I usually stay behind during breaks so that I continue to get work done and the campus is definitely quieter when 95% of the residents vacate the residence halls. No classes, no residents knocking on my door to get keyed into their rooms, and much more time to relax and sleep. On the other hand, most of my relaxation time has been spent either in the forensic science department or working on my projects in room.

Speaking of the forensic science department, a friend of mine and I volunteered to help out Admissions and discuss the department in one of their newest projects. We got sent samples of what the finished product will look like and it’s pretty stellar. Be on the lookout for it!

For now, it’s time for dinner and then off to the movies with some friends.
